The Pandora United Methodist Church will be hosting a free community meal on Wednesday, January 28 from 5:30-to 7 p.m. in the church fellowship hall, 108 E. Washington Street, Pandora. The meal this month is provided by Seven O'Clock Flock of Pandora UMC . The menu will be Tomato Soup, Grilled Cheese Sandwich, Relish Plate and Dessert.

Blanchard Valley Hospital’s Woman Wise Mammography will be offering free screening mammograms Friday, February 6 and Friday, April 24 at Woman Wise located in the EasternWoods Outpatient Center, 15900 Medical Drive South, Findlay, as part of the Hancock County Mammography Screening Initiative (HCMSI).

Appointments for free mammograms will be available from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. to those who qualify. Women and men must meet eligibility criteria related to age, breast cancer risk and household income.

The emphasis was on perspective in “Ebola and Fear: A Public Health Perspective,” offered by Dr. Ross Kauffman Jan. 6 in a Bluffton University Forum.

Outlining the disease’s history, biology and impact since the ongoing outbreak began in Guinea, in west Africa, the assistant professor of public health noted that Ebola has killed almost 8,000 of the more than 20,000 people it has sickened.

Jim Kinn of Kirtland's Auto Sales, 302 N. Main St., Bluffton, announces a new manager's special. The vehicle is a 2011 Ford Fusion SE, reduced to $11,973.

The ALS Association Central & Southern Ohio Chapter will host its second ALS
Meet & Greet session in Bluffton on January 22, 2015. The gathering is
designed for people with ALS, their families and caregivers, and others who
have been caregivers in the past for someone with ALS.

The purpose of the meeting is to share information and resources that can be
helpful to those who are impacted by ALS, and to share insights gained as
part of the ALS journey.

The January flavor of the month at Shirley's Gourmet Popcorn is cinnamon buns, according to owner Pete Suter.

All BFR group exercise classes started back in session the week of Jan. 5, accoridng to Carole Enneking of BFR Sports and Fitness.

No registration is required to participate in BFR fitness classes and new participants are welcome anytime. Individuals are invited to try out any BFR group fitness class without charge for the first visit.

Bluffton’s fire department had an extremely busy year.

The department recorded 143 fire runs in 2014, according to Jon Kinn, fire chief.

That number is 56 more than in 2013 when the department responded to 87 fire calls. Kinn gave his report to Bluffton council members on Jan. 5.

The accompanying chart shows runs by the month. The highest month was January and October when 18 runs took place.

According to Icon statistics, in 2012 the department had 107 calls. In 2011 there were 80 calls.
