Bluffton defeated Cory-Rawson 74-14, and Arlington defeated Allen East 57-23 in Friday's opening round of the McDonald's Girls' Basketball tournament.

Saturday's tournament features Cory-Rawson versus Allen East in the 6 p.m. consolation match.

Bluffton faces Arlington in the title game.

Bluffton Family Recreation offers two performance-training programs of eight sessions each in December lead by Jared Krout, BFR sports coordinator.

A Developmental Program, for youth ages 12 to 14, offers an introduction to performance training and adds a sport-specific component. Sessions are Tuesdays and Thursdays, 3:30 to 4:30 p.m., Dec. 1 to Dec. 24.

A Prep Program, for youth ages 15 to 18, offers a high-performance training program covering all aspects of athletic performance. Sessions are Tuesdays and Thursdays, 4:30 to 5:30 p.m., Dec. 1 to Dec. 24.

The Blaze of Lights is more than just a one-day event. In addition to the events taking place on Nov. 28, it includes these elements that continue nightly through Jan. 1:

• the Ream folk art holiday display
• the Gift of Giving light show extravaganza
• Bluffton Main Street business district Christmas window displays
• a tour of Bluffton’s residential yard lighting

A Thanksgiving Day service will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, 301 North Main Street, Jenera, at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, November 26.

The men’s choir will sing “Now Thank We All our God” and the church will be decorated with harvest items.

Hannah Chappell-Dick, a Bluffton High School graduate and a senior at Eastern Mennonite University, has qualified for the 2015 Division III NCAA Cross Country Championships in Winneconne, Wisc.  The meet takes place Saturday, Nov. 21. The top 35 finishers earn All-American status.

The Apollo school board will meet at 7 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 23. The agenda is an attachment at the bottom of this story.

Results from the Shannon Cemetery Commission survey reveal wide-spread agreement across the Bluffton community for support for a memorial made of tombstones, but not for replacement of the tombstones to where they were found.

The findings of the survey created by commission member Harriet Moyer were released at the most recent meeting of the commission.

The survey offered four concepts for participants to rate.

The concept receiving the most votes follows:
