Bluffton High School's girls' basketball team defeated Spencerville on Jan. 21 51-41. The win gives the Pirates an 11-4 overall mark and 4-1 in the Northwest Conference.

$4.5 million project will begin this spring;
$1.5 million capital campaign will support project

The Women’s Center of Bluffton Hospital will be established at Bluffton Hospital this year as the hospital fine-tunes its focus to better serve women.
 
The announcement follows a yearlong evaluation of services and development of a long-term plan by the hospital administration.
 

"O'er the fields we go, in a one-horse open sleigh..." you know the words. 

The Swiss Community Historical Society owns such a sleigh and is in the process of restoring it. The project is estimated to cost $7,000. Persons interested in supporting it may contact the society at PO Box 5, Bluffton, OH 45817.

DEFIANCE, Ohio - The Bluffton University men's basketball team battled for 40 minutes, but fell to their fifth straight defeat at the hands of the Defiance College Yellow Jackets, 76-68, on Wednesday, Jan. 20. The loss knocks the Beavers back to the .500 mark at 8-8 and to 3-6 in HCAC play. The win keeps Defiance in a tie for second at 7-2 in the conference standings and the Jackets sit at 9-7 overall.

For decades, organizations have used intelligence quotient or IQ to measure and predict future success. However, in the 1990s, a new concept emerged as an alternative.

That measurement is known as Emotional Intelligence or EI.  Dr. George Lehman, Howard Raid Endowed Chair and professor of business, explored the practical uses of both concepts and shared his findings during a colloquium presentation called, A Primer on Emotional Intelligence. 

The Bluffton food pantry is currently in need of specific items for its clients, according to Jami Crawfis, director.

Persons may drop this items off at the St. John's United Church of Christ any weekday morning at the College Avenue entrance.

The food pantry is operated by the Bluffton Community Assistance Program.

The Henry P. Huber Scholarship committee is currently accepting applications for the 2016-2017 school year. 

Bluffton University’s Musselman Library will host its third annual Celebrate the Library Week, Feb. 1-5. The week is a time for discovery and community for students, faculty, staff and emerti.

The goal of this week is clearly stated in its tag line: “Celebrating Student Research and Creativity.” The week includes a variety of activities such as the five minutes of fame event, First Tuesday Forum, a health and wellness expo and a research fair. 

The 17th annual Allen County Master Gardeners presents its Art of Gardening seminar Saturday, March 19, at Ohio State University-Lima. The class is held in the Life Science Building from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Cost for the seminar is $45.
