She says, "I am going on an 18 month church mission, then will return and attend college at Brigham Young University, Idaho. I plan on majoring in art and going on to a career in art therapy.

The American Red Cross will hold a blood drive Thursday, Dec. 15 from noon-6 p.m. at First Mennonite Church, 101 S. Jackson St., Bluffton.

Donors should enter by the double doors on Jackson Street -- directly across the street from Bluffton Elementary/Middle School. First Mennonite is handicapped accessible.

Dear Governor Kasich:

I understand you are considering the “heartbeat bill” which would ban abortions in the State of Ohio after 6-8 weeks, or when an embryo’s heartbeat can be detected.

I have learned that an embryo’s heartbeat can be heard only with ultrasound equipment or a fetal Doppler, both available from an obstetrician. A pregnant woman can use a stethoscope, but only much later (18-20 weeks) in a pregnancy.

It's still 2016, however some viewers start thinking about taxes in December.

Here's an overview concerning Village of Bluffton income taxes from the village tax administrator, Rhonda Hohenbrink.

"As the new year approaches, we feel it is necessary to inform Bluffton residents of some of the key and new provisions passed in House Bill 5 in regards to filing and paying Bluffton village municipal income tax," she said.

CHRISTMAS CONCERT:  The Bluffton Elementary Christmas concert is Monday, Dec. 12, at 1:30 p.m. in the high school gymnasium. If school is cancelled, the concert will be rescheduled Monday, Dec.19.

Into university athletics hall of fame

The 2007 Bluffton University baseball team has been selected for induction into Bluffton’s Athletics Hall of Fame.

The 2007 team demonstrated remarkable courage and strength in responding to the March 2, 2007, bus accident in Atlanta, Ga., including completing the 2007 baseball season under difficult circumstances.

BLUFFTON, Ohio - The Bluffton University women's basketball team rolled up a 49-24 advantage at halftime en route to a dominating 88-54 victory over visiting Earlham College on Wednesday, Dec. 7. Bluffton stayed perfect at 6-0 (2-0 HCAC) on the season while the Quakers dropped to 0-6 overall and 0-2 in the Heartland Conference.

RICHMOND, Ind. - The Bluffton University men held off upstart Earlham College for an 88-87 overtime road victory on Wednesday, Dec. 7. Bluffton improved to 6-1 (1-1 HCAC) after the one-point win while Earlham slipped to 3-4 (0-2 HCAC). The Beavers led by as many as 14 points early in the second half but it took a Trey Elchert (Jackson Center) triple with 11 seconds remaining to force the extra period.
