Result of Creating Healthy Communities Program grant

There a bike rack on the Bluffton school grounds thanks to a Creating Healthy Communities Program grant.

Bluffton's bike rack is one of 35 installed this fall in Allen County as a result of the grant.

The Creating Healthy Communities (CHC) Program of Allen County Public Health has been working to make Lima and Allen County more bike friendly.

BCE workshop "Small Business Road Map to Success" follows meeting

Joe Patton from Ohio Means Jobs, will explain services offered by Ohio's Job and Family Services, Lima office, during the Friday, Dec. 9, Bluffton Area Chamber of Commerce monthly breakfast, according to Gen Akroyd, chamber director.

Citizens National Bank will also share the impact of the election and outlook into 2017 in financial markets.

For the first time, the Icon offers viewers a front row seat to view the entire Ream Holiday Folk Art display on the Bluffton Presbyterian Church lawn.

It's easy to take this winter display for granted, at least for Bluffton residents who pass by it nearly every day in December.

We encourage residents to take a moment in the evening. Stop, get out of your vehicle and walk around the display. You'll see familiar images and new ones.

Wrap It-Up Luncheons and Mind-Body-And-Spirit Tea

The Inn at Ohio Northern University offers two wrap it-up luncheons and one mind-body-and-spirit tea this month.

Here are the details:

Wrap It-Up Luncheon
Saturday, Dec. 10, and Saturday, Dec. 17
11 a.m. to 1 p .m.

Menu includes Christmas casserole with holiday salad and dessert while Santa’s elves wrap up three of your gifts.

Mind-Body-And-Spirit Tea
Sunday, Dec. 18
2 to 4 p.m.

BFR's new indoor 7,200-square-foot turf getting great reviews from athletes

After 19 years and who-knows-how-many soccer matches, Bluffton Family Recreation has a new carpet – more precisely, a new indoor turf on its soccer field.

And, according to Joseph Beagle, BFR director, “We are getting great reviews from athletes using it.”

The new turf replaced the original turf.

Icon viewers are invited to an old-time Christmas tour in the rural Pandora community on Saturday, Dec. 10, according to Tom McCullough.

The second annual Riley Creek Old Time Christmas Tour takes place in four locations with open houses from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

BLUFFTON, Ohio - For the second straight season, the Bluffton University football team has two all-region selections in junior Micah Roberson (Ada) and sophomore Isaac Zickafoose (Middlebury, Ind./Northridge). Roberson is the second two-time D3football.com All-North Region honoree in the past two seasons following 2015 First Team selection Ryan Aelker. It also marks the third straight year that a Bluffton defensive lineman has been named All-North Region. Roberson was named Second Team All-North Region, while Zickafoose was a Third Team honoree.

Jana S. Huber, 53, died Dec. 5, 2016, at 10:47 p.m. at Bluffton Hospital. Jana was born March 30, 1963, in Bluffton to the late Lyle and Evelyn (Steinman) Everett.  On Aug. 8, 1981, she married Wayne Huber who survives. 

Jana graduated from Bluffton High School.  She was a homemaker and loved providing child care in her home over the years.  Jana previously worked for Bluffton Preschool.  She attended St. John Mennonite Church, Pandora.

Four Bluffton students are orchestra members

Four Bluffton school musicians are part of the Lima Area Youth Orchestra this school year.

The orchestra will present a Christmas concert at 7 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 18, in the Lima Senior High School Auditorium.

According to Rachael Lewis, Bluffton strings teacher, Bluffton students in the orchestra are:
• Violins: Isaac Andreas, Amanda Speicher, Grace Paquin
• Cello: Alyssa Speicher
