Each year, Bluffton University food and nutrition majors are asked to think outside of the recipe card to develop nutritious meals for Lunch and Learn.
The healthy-eating series, which is open to the community, includes a 20-30 minute cooking demonstration, nutritional information and a full meal. This year, the students are getting some extra help thanks to a sponsorship from The Food Store, located on Main Street in Bluffton.
Two Bluffton school collection drives take place this spring and community members are invited to participate.
The Ball Metal Aluminum Can Challenge is an aluminum can drive that earns money for the school. Aluminum cans can be dropped off from 7:30 to 8 a.m. on the following Thursdays: March 2, April 6 and May 11, at the Bluffton HS Jackson Street entrance.
An American Red Cross blood drive is Tuesday, May 9.
Bluffton High School juniors have the opportunity to take the ACT on Tuesday, March 21. The test is a college and career readiness requiment. The March 21 test is given at BHS for students at no cost.
Students may take the ACT as many times as they wish and use their top score for their college entrance exame.
The Allen County spelling bee is Saturday, Feb. 18, at Ohio State University-Lima. Bluffton middle school's spelling bee winner, Nicole Boyle, seventh grader, represents Bluffton. Her alternate is Elizabeth Bourassa, eighth grader. Bluffton's spelling be was in December.
Several Bluffton churches sponsor a Community Chili Cook-off later this month with proceeds benefiting the Bluffton Community Assistance Program.
The cook-off is from 5:30 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 22, at the Bluffton middle school cafetorium, according to Lynda Best, who is heading up the event.
She said that at least eight different chili recipes will be available for tasting during the event. These are provided by individuals and church groups.
DEFIANCE, Ohio - The Bluffton University women's basketball team used a balanced scoring effort of four Beavers in double figures to derail host Defiance College, 81-68, on a snowy Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2017.
