For just the10th time in its 119-year history, Bluffton University has named a new president, with Dr. Jane Wood accepting the call to serve beginning July 1, 2018.
The S.H.A.N.N.O.N. Service Club of Bluffton invites any Bluffton High School
senior to apply for a "Service to Humanity" scholarship.
At least two $750 awards will be given to deserving recipients. Seniors may pick up an application form in the Bluffton High School guidance office.
The S.H.A.N.N.O.N. Service Club (Sharing Hopes And Nourishing Needs Of
Neighbors) is an entirely local, volunteer organization whose objective is to make Bluffton a better place by serving its youth, its elderly, and its needy.
Pandora United Methodisst Church will hold a chicken barbecue dinner from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Sunday, March 25.
The dinner is at the church, 108 E.Washington St. (State Route 12) in Pandora. Tickets are $8.50 per person (dine-in or carry-out). For ticket information, call 419-384-3782. Some tickets will be available at the door.
Paula Scott, Bluffton Area Chamber of Commerce CEO, is the speaker of the Tuesday, April 3, Bluffton Lions Club meeting. The meeting is a noon in the third floor of the Bluffton town hall.

Because of this, MOVE Safe Allen County will conduct a Spring Awareness Campaign to help remind motorists, bicyclists, and pedestrians to share the road and to do it safely.
Lima/Allen County has seen an increase in pedestrian fatalities and serious bicycle crashes. Low visibility, distracted drivers, and people that are distracted while walking on streets and sidewalks cause many of these crashes.
Mercy Health announces that the IBM Watson Health 100 Top Hospitals annual awards program has named St. Rita’s Medical Center as among the highest performing hospitals in the nation.
In addition to being listed among the top large community hospitals, St. Rita’s was also named as an Everest Award winner, which is an honor given to hospitals that have achieved both the highest current performance and the fastest long-term improvement over five years.
Laura Galley, a Bluffton University senior food and nutrition major, will present “Nutrition Assessment of Kenneth Butler Memorial Soup Kitchen, Hancock County, Indiana” during an 11 a.m. Forum on Tuesday, April 3, in the Reading Room of Musselman Library.
Galley, a native of Indianapolis, Ind., will discuss her departmental honors project including an assessment of the food quality at the soup kitchen where she worked as an intern during the summer of 2017.
Amy Jean Doty, 60 of Bluffton, died March 21, 2018, at Bridge Hospice Care Center in Findlay. Amy was born Aug. 6, 1957, in Lima to the late Lewis and Margaret "Peggy" (Cook) Wilgus. On March 26, 1977, she married Thomas Doty and he survives.
Amy graduated from Spencerville High School. She had been a secretary for First Mennonite Church in Bluffton from 1977 - 1983 and then was co-owner/operator of Doty's Auto Repair in Bluffton from 1983 - present.
She was a member of the Bluffton EMS for 10 years.
Bluffton Boy Scouts from Troop 256 and one Cub Scout collected items for the Bluffton Food Pantry during "Scouting for Food" earlier this month, according to Victoria Zeits, assistant scoutmaster of troop 256.
Nearly 2,150 items were collected from the community for the pantry.
After collecting the bags, the Scouts delivered and sorted the items. There were over 23 participants (scout youth, scout adults, and scout family members).
Lynda Best of Bluffton is one of eight winners of this year’s Jefferson Awards from Allen County.
Locally the awards are presented by the Lima News, Your Hometown Stations, the United Way of Greater Lima and Husky Energy.
One of the eight Allen County winners will be chosen March 27 to attend the national Jefferson Awards banquet, held in Washington, D.C.
Jefferson Awards are given to local unsung heroes alongside national figures. The mission of the awards is to power others to have maximum impact on the things they care about most.
