JUNE 4 MEDIA RELEASE__The Ohio State Highway Patrol is asking all motorists to do their part in promoting roadway safety during what has been characterized by safety officials as the 100 Deadliest Days of Summer. This time period, which runs from Memorial Day through Labor Day, sees an increase in traffic on the roads and an increased number of both serious-injury and fatal crashes.
MAY 29 MEDIA RELEASE__Crime Victim Services is pleased to announce their second annual Anti-Violence Teen Summer Retreat happening July 14th-July 18th.
A total of 417 students received their certificates from Apollo Career Center, and Senior Honors Night served as a celebration of the achievements of the Class of 2025.
This year's class achieved an impressive 7,900 credential points and earned numerous college credits. They successfully completed school-to-work opportunities, attended Buckeye Boys and Girls State, participated in the Allen Lima Leadership Youth Program, were inducted into the National Technical Honor Society, and gained valuable experience through the pre-apprenticeship program. Many students also earned awards and scholarships. It is with great pride that we celebrate their achievements and send them forward, Next Ready.
MEDIA RELEASE__On Saturday, June 14, the Swiss Community Historical Society will host a blacksmithing demonstration by Keith Sommer, SCHS curator. This is the first of three Second Saturday events to be held at the homestead in 2025.
Blacksmithing was a once-common task at the Schumacher Homestead. Sommer will work with various blacksmith tools for hammering, punching and welding wrought iron and steel, while using a forge fire to heat the metal to “white hot” before shaping into the desired end result.

Robert "Bob" W. Grismore, 78, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 28, 2025 at his home. Bob was born June 30, 1946 in Bluffton to the late Martin and Helen (Hoffman) Grismore.
Bob was a graduate of Pandora-Gilboa High School. He was a farmer and over-the-road truck driver, traveling all over the country. Bob was also a veteran of the United States Army.
The Bluffton Senior Center, 132 N. Main St., has issued its June 2025 newsletter, full of happenings for its members. The 10-page update is now also available by email.
JUNE 2 MEDIA RELEASE__Fred Steiner will present a Swiss family migration program at the Bluffton Senior Citizens Center at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, June 5.
The presentation’s focus is on how and why ancestors of area residents immigrated to Bluffton, using the example of Steiner’s maternal great-grandparents, Rudolf and Barbara Amstutz Althaus.
Rudolf Althaus, who immigrated to America from Switzerland in 1845, owned a Bluffton general store and was also a trained landscape artist, painting scenes of Switzerland in oil, selling them to other Swiss immigrants.
