Douglas R. Edinger, 71, of Stonington, Maine, was born April 28, 1954, in Bluffton, Ohio, to Norman and Dorothy Edinger. He passed away unexpectedly at work on October 16, 2025.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Linda; daughter Allison; son Andrew (Katie); grandchildren Silas, Jasper, and Jessa; and two brothers, Dennis (Jane) and Don Edinger.

School eye screenings indicate 18 students may need follow-up care

FROM BLC NEWSLETTER__Bluffton Lions Club activities in October 2025 included eye screening at local schools from September 22-October 3. Volunteers screened 249 children with 18 fails. A printout of the screening is sent to the parents.

Lions Laura Dagani, Ed Yeager, Scott Hoff, Don Burris, Eugene McCall, Dick McGarrity, Jan Emmert, Dennis Morrison and Barbara Plaugher were the screeners.

Merger will create community banking franchise with over $7 billion total assets

OCT 22 MEDIA RELEASE__Farmers National Banc Corp. (“Farmers”) (NASDAQ: FMNB), the holding company for The Farmers National Bank of Canfield (“Farmers National Bank”), and Middlefield Banc Corp. (“Middlefield”) (NASDAQ: MBCN), the holding company for The Middlefield Banking Company (“Middlefield Bank”), jointly announced today the signing of a definitive merger agreement (the “Agreement”) pursuant to which Middlefield will merge with and into Farmers in an all-stock transaction. FROM FACEBOOK__The Bluffton University PEACE Club will host a breakfast fundraiser for students and community members. Pancakes, sausage, coffee and juice will be served at the October 25 event.

The breakfast will be held at First Menonnite Church, 101 S. Jackson St. The entry fee is $5. Donations will also be happily accepted.

Proceeds will benefit the MCC United Nations Student Seminar this November. There will be students at the breakfast to talk about the trip and answer questions.

The Breakfast Club was a movie released in 1985 about five teenagers in school detention. John Hughes wrote, directed and produced the movie, which was digitally remastered in 2015 for a 30th anniversary release in theaters. Hughes' original title for the movie was to be the Lunch Bunch, but he heard a colleague refer to detention as the breakfast club, and so the name stuck.

OCT 22 MEDIA RELEASE__The Ada Rotary Club will join Rotary clubs around the world in observing World Polio Day this Friday, October 24, by providing Purple Pinkie Donuts at several local businesses.

These donuts, topped with purple icing, symbolize the purple ink used to mark the pinkie fingers of children who have received the polio vaccine in third-world countries.

Blanchard Valley Health System (BVHS) has been included in Newsweek's list of America's Best-In-State Hospitals 2026. This prestigious award is presented in collaboration with Statista, a statistics portal and industry ranking provider.

Judge issues Temporary Restraining Order against OHSAA; Board of Directors will set voting dates

OCT 21 MEDIA RELEASE__In response to a lawsuit filed by a student-athlete on October 15 against the Ohio High School Athletic Association regarding Name, Image and Likeness (NIL), a Franklin County judge opened the case on Monday by issuing a 45-day Temporary Restraining Order (TRO) against the OHSAA.

The 45-day TRO prevents the OHSAA from enforcing its bylaw that prohibits a student-athlete from being compensated for his/her Name, Image and Likeness.
