SPENCERVILLE __The Bluffton High School cross country teams competed in the Black Division of the Spencerville Bearcat Invitational meet on Saturday, September 6.

Both Pirate teams finished fourth at the event. 

South Adams (Ind.) won the boys team title with 27 points, followed by Paulding (60), Coldwater (79), Bluffton (112), Bath (117) and St. Marys (119).

Freshman Atticus Prothro finished seventh in a time of 18:26.2 to post the top Pirate finish. Sophomore teammate Toby Clevidence came in 13th in 19:13.2.

LIMA – The Bluffton High School girls tennis team finished third at the four-team Elida Invitational tournament on Saturday, September 6.

Two Pirate doubles teams finished second in their respective tournament flights. 

Bluffton’s Hannah Nieman ended up third in the singles tournament. Another Bluffton tandem ended up third in the A flight tourney.

Celina captured the team title with 16 points, followed by host Elida in second with 11. The Pirates ended up third with eight points, while Van Wert (3) came in last.

BLUFFTON__The Bluffton High School boys soccer team lost 1-0 to visiting Archbold on Saturday, September 6 at Steinmetz Field.

Bluffton drops to 2-4-2 with the loss, while Archbold improved to 5-1.

Archer Rudy Rodger scored the game’s lone goal in the 32nd minute.

Bluffton won the junior varsity game, 8-0.

The Pirates host Liberty-Benton (5-1-1) on Tuesday, September 9.

BOWLING GREEN __The Bluffton High School girls soccer team rallied for a 3-2 win at Bowling Green in a non-league match on Saturday, September 6.

The Pirate girls improved to 2-3-2 with the comeback win that featured a three-goal explosion late in the first half.

BG’s Corinna Kramer tallied a goal in the seventh minute, followed by an Alayna Mahan netter in the 29th minute to provide the hosts with a 2-0 lead.

Giesige throws for 6 TDs

TOLEDO__The visiting Bluffton High School football team hammered non-league foe Toledo Bowsher 54-21 on Friday, September 5.

The Pirates improved to 3-0 with the lopsided road victory, while the Blue Racers fell to 0-3 with the defeat.

Bluffton junior quarterback Tayte Giesige tossed six touchdown passes and completed all 15 of his pass attempts for 305 yards to lead the victors. 

Giesige threw a pair of touchdowns each to Kain Wright, Blayne Hill and Ethan Sprunger.
