Cornelius “Neil” C. Kehler, 93, passed away October 2, 2025 at the Mennonite Memorial Home in Bluffton, Ohio. His life’s journey began on August 19, 1932, in Gull Lake, Saskatchewan. He was the fifth of eight children born to the late Cornelius and Margareta (Epp) Kehler. After graduating from Phillip Sheffield High School in Abbotsford, British Columbia, his journey led him into voluntary service with the Mennonite Central Committee where he served at the German Orphan Home in Washington, DC. During his time with MCC he met the love of his life, Eileen Myers.

FROM BSC NEWSLETTER__The Bluffton Senior Center will hold its Annual Christmas Garage Sale on Friday, October 31 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday, November 1 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Senior Center member volunteers will set up on Thursday, October 30 at 1 p.m. and clean up on November 1 at 1 p.m., as well as help during the sale itself. Let Tonya know if you can help.

OCT 7 MEDIA RELEASE__Blanchard Valley Health System (BVHS) is launching online scheduling at its primary care offices. This new feature allows patients to book appointments directly through the organization’s website.

With online scheduling, patients can now view real-time availability and reserve appointments for routine check-ups, follow-ups, and other primary care needs with just a few clicks. This enhancement reduces phone wait times and improves access to care.

OCT 6 MEDIA RELEASE__The Bluffton Area Chamber of Commerce will host the October Breakfast Meeting at Bluffton Town Hall on Friday, October 10. 

The meeting sponsor is the Bluffton Area Chamber of Commerce. Twisted Whisk Cafe will be providing the breakfast, which is served at 7:00 a.m.

The program will be presented by Dr. Lucas McKean, an orthopedic surgeon with Blanchard Valley Health System.

LaVerne “Verne” Gene Schirch died on October 1, 2025 at the age of 89. He was born on August 9, 1936, in Bloomington, Illinois to Ernest Raymond Schirch and Opal Bluette (Stahly) Schirch. Reldon Dean (1934-2022) was his only sibling.

LIMA__Hannah Nieman of the Bluffton High School girls tennis team competed on day two of the Div. II sectionals at UNOH on Saturday, October 4.

The Pirate senior ace advanced to the singles semifinals with two wins Thursday to automatically qualify for the Div. II Port Clinton district tournament.

On Saturday, fourth seed Nieman lost to top sectional seed Maggie Schmiedebusch of Ottawa-Glandorf in the semifinals by a score of 6-1, 6-1. Schmiedebusch eventually won the sectional crown 6-3, 6-1 in the title round.
