Even a quick conversation with Jana Hughes, the granddaughter of Charles (Charley) Hankish, gives a taste of memories that linger from Hankish Confectionary, a Bluffton business from 1906-1956. Hughes was born after the store closed but provides tantalizing glimpses of Charley's gift for candy and business.

The Bluffton High School boys golf team has opened its 2026 season with back-to-back events: the Pirates defeated Ft. Jennings in a dual match on August 3 and competed in the nine-team Elmwood Royal Invitational at Birch Run Golf Club on August 4.

The Pirate linksters won the dual match decisively by 39 strokes, 363 to 402, to start their campaign 1-0.

Bluffton’s Ethan Fifer won match medalist honors as he posted a 39-45=84 score over 18 holes.

VAN WERT – The Bluffton High School girls varsity golf team opened its season by competing in the eight-team Lincolnview Invitational at the Willow Bend Country Club in Van Wert on Tuesday, August 4.

The Pirate girls took seventh with 459 strokes.

Delphos St. John’s edged Defiance by five strokes (378-383) to win the team title. Delphos Jefferson finished third (408), followed by host Lincolnview (426), Celina (441), Miller City (451), Bluffton and Wayne Trace (470).

On the first Monday of August, some 20 quilters gathered at the Bluffton Senior Center for show and tell, a "Quilting on the Edge" demonstration and snacks.

The Bluffton Scrap Artist Quilters meet 10 out of 12 months to share their love of fabrics, design and creativity. This month, members displayed results from a three-crayon challenge: make a quilt (small or large) using random colors drawn from a bag of crayons.
