What is in a pattern? Is there a science behind patterns? The shell of a snail is a great example of how nature contains patterns that can be explained by math. The pattern found in a snail's shell can be explained by a phenomenon known as Fibonacci numbers. In addition, our brains naturally attempt to combine information to form patterns to make decisions quickly. With repeated exposure to information, our brain tries to simplify decisions by forming patterns.

Mike Cox, a 45-year veteran of the Bluffton Fire Department, has retired.

The Bluffton Area Chamber of Commerce will welcome new member-investor Bluffton Lantern Nutrition with a ribbon cutting ceremony at noon on Saturday, July 24.

The new shop in Tommy's Plaza, 142 E Jefferson, serves "best tasting healthy smoothies and healthy fruity energy drinks." Owners Jennifer and Jeffrey Putman will also host a grand opening celebration with extended hours from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the day of the ribbon cutting.
