Many Bluffton residents recognized Adan Ortiz who lived in an apartment above Jordan-Diller Insurance agency on South Main Street. But, that’s where it ended. Who was he?
All that most people knew is that he often stood in the doorway between JDI and Edward Jones office, sometimes smoking a cigarette, as he watched the Bluffton scene pass him by.
Where shall I begin? A student at Bluffton Community Preschool asks the question as he stands before a blank sheet of paper. The Icon didn't stay around to see the completed work, but watched as the young artist very deliberately thought though his plan and prepared his painting supplies.
Marvin L. Reigle, 85, died Jan. 25, 2017, at Mennonite Memorial Home in Bluffton. Marvin was born May 10, 1931, in Beaverdam, Ohio, to the late Marvin and Edna (Hermon) Reigle. On Feb. 4, 1955, he married Marilyn Auchmuty Reigle who survives.
Marvin was a carpenter and had worked for Steiner & Reichenbach Lumber in Bluffton. He was an active member of Ebenezer Mennonite Church, Bluffton. Marvin was an avid wood worker, enjoyed camping, fishing, attending tractor shows and spending time with his family. He was a graduate of Beaverdam High School.
Planning is underway for Bluffton's third annual bicycle Ride to Remember. This year's ride is Saturday, July 8, one week earlier than prevous rides. Dick Ramseyer and Bill Triplett shared ride details with persons interested in helping with this year's event during a Jan. 23 meeting at First Mennonite Church. Proceeds from the ride support the Bluffton pathway and bicycle on-going projects. Watch the Icon for future Ride details.
Bluffton council reversed course on Monday and voted 6-0 by emergency to approve Bluffton being on the U.S. and State Bike Route network.
This means that Bike Route 25 between Lima and Findlay will pass down Bluffton’s Main Street.
The program is part of an Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) long-range plan, Access Ohio 2040. It’s a coordinated effort with local jurisdictions like Bluffton to get the bike route network in place.
Ruth Elizabeth Wildermuth, 91, died Jan. 23, 2017, at Richland Manor Nursing Home, Bluffton. Ruth was born Aug. 22, 1925, in Allen County, Ohio, to the late Emmer and Florence (Cool) Bridges. On Oct. 28, 1945, she married Norbert Wildermuth who preceded her in death on March 16, 1996.
She was a 1943 graduate of Lafayette-Jackson High School. Ruth had worked at the City Loan and Lima Locomotive Works both in Lima. She later retired from Triplett Corporation in Bluffton.
