Here's the schedule of February arts and events open to the public at Bluffton University.

Feb. 6 Art Exhibit: “Art As Activism,” an invitational group exhibit, Sauder Visual Arts Center, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays and 1-5 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays through Feb. 24
Feb. 7 Forum: “The Elmira Case Film,” by Julie Friesen, Director of Programs at Community Justice Initiatives, Waterloo, Ont., 11 a.m., Yoder Recital Hall
Dr. Melissa Friesen, professor of theatre and communication and Mary Nord Ignat and Joseph Ignat Chair in Theatre, will present the colloquium "Theatre for Living” on Friday, Feb. 10.
Dr. Friesen will share insights and techniques from the Theatre for Living training workshop she completed last August with David Diamond in Vancouver, British Columbia.
Bluffton council voted to give $5,000 to the Bluffton Area Chamber of Commerce this year.
Gen Akroyd, chamber director, made the request at the Jan. 23 council meeting. She said that the village collects hotel-motel taxes to promote the village and that the chamber would like $5,000 for promotional purposes.
Phill Talavinia asked if there is enough to also support Bluffton Center For Entreprenuers, which has also asked and received $5,000 annually for the past three years.
BCE has not yet asked for its village hotel-motel tax allotment.
Bluffton council announced several committee meetings at its Jan. 23 session. Those follow:
• Jan. 30 - Recreation Committee, 6 p.m.
• Feb . 1 - Village recognition of fire department members
• Feb. 2 - Street and Alley Committee, 6 p.m. - to discuss Main and College intersection.
• Feb. 7 - Tree commission, 7 p.m.
• Feb. 13 - Utility Committee, 7 p.m.
• Feb. 23 - Bluffton Airport Commission, at airport, 7:45 p.m.
For the past 13 years, I have had the esteemed pleasure to serve the residents and businesses of the Village of Bluffton in the role as Village Administrator.
In that time, I had the great fortune of working with some incredibly dedicated public servants that take great pride in the quality services that they provide to this community. They truly are wonderful people that care about this community and I will forever cherish the time that I had with them and the good that we accomplished for the community.
