Bluffton University’s new Sommer Center for Health and Fitness Education was a popular place on Nov. 5, the day it opened to the campus community. At their meeting Nov. 9 and 10, the Bluffton Board of Trustees learned just how popular.

Bluffton schools will have six student teachers in the winter-spring terms. Approval of those six are among several items on Monday’s Bluffton school board agenda.

The Bluffton University women’s basketball team opened the new Sommer Center and and its 2012-13 season with a hard-fought win over Aurora University on Friday, Nov. 16, 2012.

The Beavers (1-0) will play in the Tip-Off Tournament finals at 3 p.m. on Saturday against Hiram College, while Aurora matches up with Pitt-Greensburg at 1 p.m.

The Beavers won their own Bluffton Tip-Off Tournament on Saturday, Nov. 17, defeating Hiram College, 55-44, on Copeland Court in the Sommer Center.

Sophomore Rachel DeBord (Lebanon) was named the tournament Most Valuable Player after turning in a 13-point, four-assist and three-rebound performance in the title game.

After leading most of the way, the Bluffton University men's basketball team fell victim to a late second half run by the Johns Hopkins University Blue Jays on Saturday, Nov. 17.

The Beavers fell 58-56 to Johns Hopkins in the consolation game of the Stephanie Tubbs Jones Memorial Tournament hosted by Case Western University in Cleveland, Ohio.

“An Old-Time Christmas at the Homestead” is the theme of the Christmas Season Open House to be held by the Swiss Community Historical Society of Bluffton and Pandora at its historic 1843 Swiss Homestead, 8350 Bixel Road, on Dec. 1 from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. 

Christmas decorations of the 19th century will highlight the occasion, which will also feature live music in the parlor, hearth-cooking at the kitchen fireplace, and candle-making in the basement of the recently-restored Schumacher House.
