The holidays can be a particularly difficult time to cope with the loss of a loved one and the Tree of Remembrance memorial service provides a forum where families can come together to express their grief, but also find peace for years to come.
Chiles-Laman Funeral & Cremation Services will hold its Tree of Remembrance memorial service on Sunday, Dec. 9, at The Centre at Bluffton, 601 N. Main St., for those who have lost a loved one this year or in years past.
Persons attending may begin arriving at 1 p.m. A brief memorial service is at 2 p.m.
Frances Delta Scoles, 105, died peacefully of natural causes on Dec. 3, 2018, at Mennonite Memorial Home in Bluffton. Frances was born Aug. 12, 1913 in Bluffton to the late Alfred and Adele (Grant) Criblez. On Dec. 6, 1936, she married Guy Scoles who preceded her in death in August of 1982.
Frances graduated from Bluffton High School and attended Bluffton College. She was a homemaker and was a lifetime member of St. John's United Church of Christ in Bluffton where she was active in the Women's Groups and was a Sunday School teacher.
Author, CEO and former practicing psychologist, Dr. Nate Regier brought a message of compassionate accountability to Bluffton University students during the Nov. 27 Forum “Conflict Without Casualties.”
Regier’s advice for avoiding the hook of drama without avoiding conflict: respond calmly, empathize, help (not dramatize) and recognize the other person’s willingness to be open. “Compassion is about struggling with people in the spirit of dignity so that we can use conflict to create something amazing. It’s the alternative to drama,” explained Regier.
Bridge Bereavement Services, a division of Blanchard Valley Health System, will host its December presentation of the “Living through Loss” series on Monday, Dec. 17, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. This presentation is titled “Guilt, Anger and Challenges” and will take place in the Marathon Auditorium at Blanchard Valley Hospital, located at 1900 S. Main St., Findlay. Light refreshments will be provided.
