The Bluffton Police Department will hold a bicycle rodeo on Saturday, May 13, at the Buckeye Park.
The rodeo for youth takes place from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the park. All participants will receive a free bike helmet. In addition there will be a bike raffle.
It enables clean up of sediment in streams. The village and Blanchard River Watershed Partnership (BRWP) will hold a demonstration of the sand wand in early June in Bluffton.
The demo is from 1 to 4 p.m., Friday, June 2, at the fork in the Riley – where the Little Riley meets the Big Riley. If you don't know where the "fork is, it's along Riley Street near the bridge on the west side of Spring Street.
The public is invited to bring waders and try out the sand wand.
Four-year-old Maelene Lawrence of Carey has a fish story to tell for the rest of her life. She caught this 16-inch trout at the Bluffton Sportsmen's Club trout derby on Sunday. It wasn't trout number 1, but it was tagged and worth $20. Her fish was tag 93, and her prize was from the UAW Local 1327. No one caught Sudden Sam, this year's number 1 trout derby the derby.
M. Eilene Mericle, 93, died May 4, 2017, at 7:47 p.m. at Willow Ridge - Betty House in Bluffton. Eilene was born April 4, 1924, in Orange Township near Bluffton to the late Ross and Arah (Ewing) Tripplehorn. On Sept. 17, 1942 she married Gerald "Gene" Mericle who preceded her in death on Oct. 22, 1997.
Eilene was a homemaker and had also worked at Gillette Bakery and Crow's Dime Store both of Bluffton. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Bluffton and the Bluffton Senior Citizens.
