Helen M. Andrews, 87 died at 12:35 PM at Hilty Memorial Home, Pandora.  She was born January 6, 1925 in Elm Grove, West Virginia to Thomas and Katherine (Daughtery) Shaw.  On April 22, 1951 she married Harold E. Andrews and he survives.

Two downtown businesses have special events for youth on Saturday and Bluffton University will hold "Community Day" during its two basketball double headers. Here are the details:

Greg’s Pharmacy
Greg's Pharmacy is hosting Kid's Day on Saturday from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m. according to Greg Conkling, owner. Children of all ages are invited to come and meet Santa and will receive a free 4x6-inch print with Santa.   Greg's Pharmacy is located at 126 N. Main St.

 

To fight hunger in Africa, a Penn State University program has helped design more affordable greenhouses and solar food dryers.

A conventional greenhouse costs about $2,500 in Kenya, Khanjan Mehta noted Dec. 4 at Bluffton University. But an alternative, expandable model—designed by a new Kenyan company and Penn State’s Humanitarian Engineering and Social Entrepreneurship program—is $550, said Mehta, the program’s director.

And solar dryers used for food preservation, which have cost as much as $5,000, can now be built by two people in two days for $200, he said.

Bluffton High School girls’ defeated Lima Central Catholic 38-36 on Thursday night at BHS. LCC took a 13-6 first period lead and maintained a 18-12 halftime edge.  Then BHS took over. Bluffton led 29-24 after three and held off the T-Birds in the final period.
