Softball: Bluffton slips 1-run decisions vs. Albion

The Bluffton University baseball team held off Otterbein 7-6 on Wednesday, March 20. Bluffton improved to 7-7 on the season, while Otterbein slipped back to .500 at 7-7 overall.

With bases loaded in the top of the third inning, freshman Cale Sherbourne (Johnstown/Big Walnut) took one for the team when he was hit by a pitch which pushed Bryce Fink (Medina) across the plate and tied the game 1-1. The Cardinals responded with three runs in the fourth, making it 4-1 heading into the fifth inning.

Crime Victim Services, Lima, invites Icon viewers to become volunteer guardians for persons in Allen County, according to Elysia Bush, director of the CVS elder victim ministry and guardian programs.

A session explaining the program is at noon and again at 6 p.m., Wednessday, March 27, at Crime Victim Services, 330 N. Elizabeth St. Lima. A light meal is included.

Amanda Outland, a Bluffton University senior, double-majoring in business and sports management, is a Bluffton Family Recreation intern this spring.

At BFR she coordinated and oversaw the 4th grade boys’ and girls’ basketball leagues and the 3rd and 4th grade volleyball league. She also coached the volleyball league.

The Toledo Start High School graduate was a middle hitter on the Bluffton University volleyball  team. In high school she played varsity softball and played on a club broomball team.

March 31 presentation at Bluffton University

Dora Maendel of Fairholme Hutterite Colony and Dr. Duane Stoltzfus of Goshen College will present “On the Front Line of Conscience: An Account of Four Hutterites Imprisoned at Alcatraz” at 4 p.m. on Sunday, March 31, in Yoder Recital Hall on the Bluffton University campus.

Elementary school testing on the April calendar

Elementary grade cards go home on Friday, March 29.

That’s just a fraction of the news this month at Bluffton elementary. Here is an update of several addition spring elementary events from the school website.

A dental clinic is scheduled on Monday, April 1. This in-school dentist event provides dental care, which includes an exam, X-rays, cleaning, fluoride and sealants when needed. Restorative care, such as fillings, may also be provided. Permission forms were already sent home with students.

Tayler Nowak Valentine plays the viola during a rehearsal of the Bluffton High School orchestra earlier this week. The orchestra will perform at 6:45 p.m. during Friday's Music Boosters barbecue and music. Rachael Lewis is the director. Additional orchestra photos are part of this series.
