Short-handed Pirate girls take a loss

LIMA__The visiting Bluffton High School bowling teams split a dual match vs. Lima Temple Christian at 20th Century Lanes on Saturday, January 17.

BOYS RESULTS
The Pirate boys rolled to a decisive victory in their match by a score of 2,483 pins to 1,821. Their margin of victory was 662 pins.

“A good win today for the boys team,” said Bluffton head bowling coach Ben Nye. “A great stand out game for Salazar and two-game series for Kidd today under some tougher conditions.”

Bluffton won game one 878-689, and dominated the second match 852-583. The Pirates cruised to victory in the opening round 1,730-1,212 by 518 pins.

In the five-game Baker Series, the Pirates won all five contests by rolling a 111-134-182-187-139=753 set. The Pioneers rolled a 101-113-101-130-104=549 Baker Series.

Emmitt Kidd rolled a 214-203=417 series to finish first overall. Kidd rolled six straight strikes plus a spare in his 214 outing. He rolled three strikes and a spare to close out his second game.

Joziah Salazar bowled a 255-144=399 set, posting the highest single game of the match. Salazar rolled eight consecutive strikes in his 255 outing, then added a spare in the 10th frame.

Weston Johnstone bowled a 164-188=352 series. He rolled five spares and three strikes in game one. He bowled a turkey late in the second match.

Xavier Navarro rolled a 173 in game two while Coby Dailey tallied a 125 in game one to combine for a 298 series. Dailey rolled five 10th frame strikes in the Baker Series, including a turkey in the third game.

Brady Montgomery rolled a 144 in game two while Elijah Nye contributed a 120 in the first match to combine for a 264 series.

GIRLS RESULTS
In the girls’ bout, Temple beat the short-handed Pirates 1,794 pins to 1,315.

The Pioneer girls won the first game 584-454, then TC took game two by a 679-438 count. The hosts won the opening series by 271 pins, 1,263-892. 

Bluffton rolled 64-88-87-94-80=423 in the Baker Series as they won only the fourth contest. TC bowled a 125-123-93-89-101=531 Baker Series to take round two by 108 pins.

Laney Kiene bowled a 109-126=235 opening round series. 

Elana Navarro rolled a 120-114=234 series. Charlotte Kidd rolled a 118-108=226 set. Natalie Richards added a 107-90=197 set.

“We were a bowler down today, and that is just a tough handicap to overcome in bowling,” Nye admitted. “It was great to see Navarro have her best series of the year so far, and everyone working hard the whole game.” 

UP NEXT
Bluffton bowls in a tournament at the same venue on Monday, January 19.

“With having the Jack Hammill tournament at 20th Century Lanes this Monday I feel they learned a lot and can use that here in a couple days,” Nye noted. 

“I am hoping the girls can keep going when they are back in a couple days,” he added.
