Visiting Leipsic rallied from an early deficit to defeat Bluffton 28-14 in a Northwest Conference clash Friday night, October 1, at Harmon Field. (BHS video coverage at https://youtu.be/fcSMEeNsspI)

The Pirates led 6-0 after one period, but then the Vikings reeled off 28 unanswered points to build an insurmountable cushion. Bluffton tallied a mid-fourth period touchdown to reduce the final margin to 14. 

Leipsic quarterback Dillon Niese threw four touchdown passes to pace the victors.

Lena Marie Bauman, 95, of Fort Wayne, passed away, Wednesday, September 22, 2021, at her residence. Lena was born to the late Alva and Marcine (Ulrich) Ball, on April 24, 1926, in Gilboa, Ohio.

She was married to the late John Frederick Bauman. Mrs. Bauman loved being with her family, making quilts, growing flowers indoor and outside, and visiting with anyone. To her strangers were just friends she had not yet met.

The Bluffton University women's soccer team ejoyed its second consecutive shutout in a 3-0 victory over rival Defiance College in the Heartland Conference opener for both teams. The Beavers improved to 4-4 overall and 1-0 in the HCAC, while Defiance fell to 2-5 on the season. It is the first time Bluffton has posted consecutive shutouts since 2013 when the Beavers routed Andrews and Ohio Christian.

The Bluffton High School golf team finished a strong third out of 13 teams in the Div. III golf sectionals at Sycamore Springs Golf Course Thursday, September 30, to qualify for districts.

Allen East won the sectional crown with a team score of 337. Van Buren was second (341) and Bluffton third (346).

The top three teams and three individuals not on a qualifying team made it to the Div. III district event at Stone Ridge October 7.

During October 2021, the Bluffton Police Department will wear uniforms with pink patches and shields in support of the battle against breast cancer. Officer Eric Rayle brought the idea forward as an extension of the department's observation of "No Shave November" for cancer awareness.

Dick and RosaLee Greenway will celebrate their 70th wedding anniversary on October 7, 2021. Their family includes daughters Sue (Greg) Luginbill, Deb (Chuck) Mach, 4 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.

Dick Greenway retired from teaching at Bluffton High School and was the golf coach; he previously taught and coached at Elida High School.  RosaLee (Altstaetter) Greenway retired from Carter Lumber.
