Turn back the clock and watch Bluffton in 1974!

You don’t need to travel to Switzerland to hear alphorns.

Alphorns are coming to Bluffton during this year’s Swiss Day, sponsored by the Swiss Community Historical Society.

Jed Hacker and his colleagues from Columbus, called Alphorn Gruezie (Alphorn Greetings), will perform on the horns and will explain how the unique Swiss instruments work.

This year’s Swiss Day includes a potluck at 12:30 p.m., Sunday, June 29, at Ebenezer Mennonite Church, 8905 Columbus Grove Road. Persons attending are invited to bring a potluck dish to share.

Don't leave town Saturday evening, or you'll miss all the fireworks! After a one-year absence, fireworks are returning to Bluffton.

The free community display takes place at dusk, which is approximately 9:30 p.m., Saturday, June 28, at the Bluffton University football stadium.

In addition to the fireworks, the Bluffton-Beaverdam-Richland Township United Way will sell 50/50 raffle tickets. The drawing for the 50/50 winner takes place at the stadium prior to the fireworks getting underway.

One of the longest continually operating educational programs in Bluffton celebrates 90 years this summer.

Bluffton Weekday Christian Education launched in Bluffton schools in 1924 and continues today. Since its beginning, 29 persons have taught elementary youth in what is now known as “release time.” Classes take place in First Mennonite Church.

The program celebrated 90 years during a recent Bluffton farmers’ market.

Current board members of Weekday Christian Ed are Mark Yoder, Gary Bishop and Joyce Smith.
