A pair of runs in both the eighth and ninth innings propelled the Bluffton University baseball team to its fifth straight Heartland Conference series victory as the Beavers wrapped up a home-and-home sweep of Earlham College on a beautiful Tuesday, April 22, 2014. Bluffton improved to 18-15 overall and more importantly 10-9 in the HCAC, while Earlham slipped to 18-14 and 10-9 in the conference.

Bluffton University will mark its annual May Day weekend May 1-4 with traditional alumni reunions, student activities and graduation events, as well as a “faculty showcase” in Musselman Library.

Featured at the latter event, beginning at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, May 3, will be:

· Dr. Martina Cucchiara, an assistant professor of history, sharing excerpts from a Jewish German woman’s World War II-era diary that Cucchiara found in a German archive while conducting research last summer with the aid of a Bluffton University Research Center grant;

The Bluffton University baseball team ran out to a 10-2 lead midway through the sixth and held on for its fourth straight Heartland Conference series victory on Saturday, April 19, 2014. Bluffton improved to 16-14 overall and 9-9 in the HCAC, while Anderson dropped to 18-11 and 11-7 in the conference.

May Day weekend is a Bluffton University tradition with events dating back a century, including a theatrical production that ultimately became the May Day musical.

Beginning with May Day 1915, early theater productions at Bluffton featured Shakespeare “on the green.” Musicals were introduced in the ‘50s, notes Dr. Melissa Friesen, professor of theatre and communication.
