Board focuses on in-person living and learning efforts, discusses university’s strategic plan, learns about increased diversity and inclusion efforts on campus

The Bluffton University Board of Trustees met via Zoom in October for their annual fall meeting.

Trustees spent the majority of time reviewing in-person living and learning efforts, discussing the implementation of the university’s strategic plan, and learning about increased diversity and inclusion efforts on campus. 

Board members were provided updates on Bluffton’s COVID-19 response from members of cabinet. They also approved a resolution to recognize the substantial work of faculty and staff in reopening campus amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. 

The Bluffton University volleyball team showed off both its flexibility and talent when the Beavers traveled to Adrian College on Oct. 17, for the 2020 season opener.

After having its Tuesday matches against Trine canceled and the Saturday date with Manchester shelved, Bluffton shifted gears with a trip to Adrian that came together on Friday.

The Beavers took the first two sets before dropping the third. A convincing 25-14 win in the fourth set propelled the visitors to a 1-0 mark on the season.

Bluffton University presents fall theatre

Bluffton University theatre will present five short plays for their fall performance collectively titled “Alone, Together,” during three virtual viewing opportunities, Oct. 29-Nov. 1.

The plays will explore the challenges and surprises of social distancing during the pandemic with charm, humor, tenderness and loss.

When Indianapolis native Haley Gill was searching for a college, she was drawn to Bluffton University’s small campus community and atmosphere. 

“I graduated with 600 other students in my high school class, so coming to a place where you actually get to know everybody is nice,” said Gill. “At Bluffton, I knew I would be able to build relationships with my professors, and that’s something I’ve really enjoyed. You can talk to your professors about life or anything.”

Bluffton University’s Harvest Dinner returns as a drive-thru, prepaid event

The Bluffton University Nutrition Association (BUNA) will host its annual Harvest Dinner, benefiting the Bluffton Community Assistance Corporation and the Churches United Pantry (CUP) in Lima, from 4-6 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 6.

The event will be held in a drive-thru format this year. Tickets must be purchased in advance at www.bluffton.edu/harvestdinner via PayPal or credit card.

The Bluffton University men's golf team traveled to Sylvania for the Grey Wolf Invitational hosted by Lourdes College on  Oct. 12. The Beavers wrapped up the 2020 fall slate with a 334, besting Concordia by 12 shots en route to a 6th place finish.
