Two Bluffton community meals are set for February. They are at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 2, and Thursday, Feb. 16, at the Bluffton Senior Citizens Center.

Both meals are free and open to the public. Persons attending may provide a canned donation to the Bluffton food pantry if they wish.

St. Mary’s Catholic Church will host the Feb. 2 meal. SHANNON Service Club will host the Feb. 16 meet.

Several programs of interest to gardeners are planned this spring by the Allen County Master Gardeners.

Details follow:

March 7-April 25 – Master Gardener Volunteer Training for: Allen, Hardin, and Hancock  at the OSU - Lima Campus.  Classes are Tuesday and Thursday evenings. Contact the Extension Office www.allen.osu.edu for more details. The deadline to register is Feb. 20. 

Register by Feb. 2 for this Oakwoods Nature Preserve event

An Animal Tracks and Signs nature program takes place Saturday, Feb. 4, at 10 a.m. at Oakwoods Nature Preserve’s Discovery Center, Findlay. You’ll learn how to look for and identify tracks and signs, take a hike to see what animals have been on the trails, and make your own track to take home.

All ages are welcome. Register with $2 per person by 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 2. There is a minimum six and a maximum of 30 participants. Oakwoods Nature Preserve’s Richard S. “Doc” Phillips Discovery Center is located at 1400 Oakwoods Lane, off County Road 144, west of Findlay. 

Free classes open to the public on a variety of subjects

Active and healthy minds.

That’s the focus of classes offered soon by the Bluffton Senior Citizens Center, 132 N. Main St., according to Tonya Meyer, director.

The classes will take place Mondays at 9:30 a.m.

According to Meyer the classes hope to fill a little of the gap left by the absence of ILR classes at Bluffton University.

She added that many ILR participants are also members of the Bluffton Senior Center, so the center decided to launch the project.

ArtSpace/Lima announces two new Soup and Salad Lectures presented by Mary Ann Sullivan, professor emeritus of English and Art History at Bluffton University.

The lectures celebrate two of the most prominent and influential women in British art:  photographer Julia Margaret Cameron (Wednesday, Jan. 25) and painter Vanessa Bell (Wednesday, Feb. 1).  Both events are at 6 p.m. at ArtSpace Lima, 65-67 Town Square, Lima.

Each evening will feature a light supper and an illustrated talk on the evening’s subject.
