"Dolphin Tale" and "Moneyball" shown at Shannon October 21-27

Peter Suter of Shannon Theatre announced that "Dolphin Tale" (PG) and "Moneyball" (PG-13) is showing at the theatre from October 21 to October 27.

Show times follow:

Dolphin Tale - Every evening at 7 PM with Saturday and Sunday matinees at 1:30 & 4:00 PM. Please note: Shannon Theatre cannot accept any passes for Dolphin Tale. All seats are $3.00.

Moneyball - Every evening at 9:30 PM only.

BFR hosts American Red Cross babysitting class Nov. 13

An American Red Cross babysitting certification class is planned in November at BFR.

The class is from 12:30 to 6:30 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 13, at BFR, 215 Snider Road, Bluffton. Students ages 11 to 15 are invited to participate. The cost is $38 for BFR members, $43 for non-members.

BFR invites business and organizations to offer prizes at Oct. 23 non-scary Halloween party

BFR is inviting area businesses to offer prizes for its free (scare-free) Halloween party planned on Sunday, Oct. 23, according Maranda Miller.

"In order to keep this a free community event we are looking for donations," she told The Icon. There are several ways businesses may contribute:

Fire Department open house, chili dinner, quilt raffle on Oct. 15

Bluffton ladder truck

The Bluffton Fire Department will hold an open house to coincide with National Fire Prevention Week, according to Jon Kinn, fire chief. The open house will be held Saturday, Oct. 15 at the fire station, 402 N. Main St.

The fire department will perform demonstrations from 10 a.m. to noon and from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m.

Demonstrations will include Jaws of Life extrication, use of fire extinguishers, and what to do in the event of a grease fire.

"Real Steel" shown at Shannon October 7 -13

Peter Suter of Shannon Theatre announced that Walt Disney's "Real Steel" (PG-13) is showing at the theatre from October 7 to October 13.

Show times follow:

Each evening at 7 and 9:30 PM with Saturday and Sunday matinees at 1:30 and 4:00 PM.

Registration underway for BFR Oct. 15 kid's fun night

BFR will hold a Kids Fun Night from 6 to 9 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 15, according to Carole Enneking, BFR director.

The evening includes an outdoor pumpkin hunt, games, pizza, flashlight tag and similar games.

It is open to youth from kindergarten to fifth grade. Cost is $10 for members and $20 for non-members.

Persons must register youth by Oct. 11. A limit of 40 youth will be accepted.
