Ohio Northern University to present 'The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee'

ADA - The Ohio Northern University Freed Center for the Performing Arts presents "The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee" on Sept. 15-18 at 7:30 p.m. with two matinee showings on Sep. 17-18 at 2 p.m.

Conceived by Rebecca Feldman, "The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee" is a one-act musical comedy centering on a fictional spelling bee set in the geographically ambiguous Putnam Valley Middle School, where six quirky adolescents compete in a competition run by three equally quirky adults.

Legacy workshop Sept. 15 at Public Library

Beyond Budgeting hosts an informative workshop, "Leaving a Love Legacy," at 6:15 to 7:30 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 15, in the Richland Room of the Bluffton Public Library.

During the workshop, Beth Boehr will share with participants what documents are needed and practical organizational tips so that everything can be easily located in case of an emergency.

"The Help" shown at Shannon Sept. 9-15

Peter Suter of Shannon Theatre announced that "The Help" (PG-13) is showing at the theatre from September 9 to September 15.

Show times follow:
Each evening at 7 and 9:30 p.m. with Saturday and Sunday matinees at 1:30 and 4 p.m.

Brauen's Gourds open house Sept. 17-18

Don and Jodi Brauen's Gourds fall open house is coming soon. The event is Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 17-18, at the Brauen rural home at 7140 Tom Fett Road, south of Bluffton.

Open house hours are Saturday, Sept. 17, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Sunday, Sept. 18, from 1 to 4 p.m. The open house is held one-half time north of Stratton's Greenhouse between Old U.S. 30 and Shifferly Road.

The Brauen's phone number is 419-358-2324. This year's open house includes fall and winter designs and many more. Many new designs are part of this year's open house.

"Whose Line is it Anyway?" stars to perform at the Freed Center

Ohio Northern University's Freed Center for the Performing Arts presents "Colin and Brad: Two Man Group," featuring Colin Mochrie and Brad Sherwood from the hit improvisational show "Whose Line Is It Anyway?," on Saturday, Sept. 10 at 7:30 p.m.

Monthly senior breakfast schedule set for 2011-12

Senior citizen breakfast at the Bluffton middle school are set for the 2011-12 school year, according to Greg Denecker, superintendent. The breakfasts begin at 8:30 a.m. in the middle school cafetorium with the following schedule and student entertainers:

Sept. 14 - Marching band
Oct. 19 - Show choir
Nov. 9 - Drama Club
Dec. 14 - Concert choir
Jan. 11 - Strings
Feb. 8 - Ladies First Choir
March 7 - Concert band
April 11 - High school musical
May 9 - Jazz band
