Obituaries

Avis A. Marshall, 89 died on May 13, 2018, at Blanchard Valley Hospital in Findlay.  Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, May 17, at Chiles-Laman Funeral & Cremation Services, Bluffton. 

Visitation will be Wednesday from 2 – 4 p.m. and 6 – 8 p.m. at the funeral home.  Arrangements have been entrusted with Chiles-Laman Funeral & Cremation Services, Bluffton.

Carl J.C. Wolf died on May 11, 2018, at the age of 99.  Carl was born in Lawrence, Massachusetts, on Feb. 16, 1919 to Otto A. and Helen Hilbert Wolf. He is predeceased by his wife, Claralice, and by his sister, Arvola.

Carl graduated from Lawrence High School, Lawrence, Massachusetts, in 1936, Wheaton College in Wheaton, Illinois, 1940, and Princeton Theological Seminary, Princeton, New Jersey, in 1943. He received an honorary Doctor of Divinity from Davis and Elkins College, West Virginia, in 1956.

He married Claralice Hanna in August 1943.

Marilyn R. Hancock, 87, died May 10, 2018, at Mercy Health - St. Rita's Medical Center in Lima. Marilyn was born Dec. 8, 1930, in Lima. On Aug.18, 1952, she married Alexander Hancock who preceded her in death on Dec. 25, 1998.

Marilyn graduated from Ada High School and was a homemaker.  She was a member of the Pinochle Club and member of Beaverdam United Methodist Church.

A life-long farmer, he served on many agriculture-related boards

Harold Eugene von Stein, 82, of Jenera, Ohio, died on May 9, 2018, at 9:05 a.m. at his residence.

He was born on April 15, 1936, to the late Harley and Frieda (Marquart) von Stein. On Feb.23, 1958, he married Deloros Mae Bormuth at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, with whom he recently celebrated 60 years of marriage, and she survives in rural Jenera.

Theodore "Ted" Marvin Diller, 88, died May 8, 2018, at Blanchard Valley Hospital, Findlay. Ted was born Nov. 17, 1929, in Allen County, Ohio to the late Archie and Velma (Miller) Diller. On February 19, 1954, he married Joan VanMeter Diller who survives in Bluffton.

Ted was a graduate of Pandora High School, attended Bluffton College and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.  Ted was a member of Grace Mennonite Church in Pandora and past member of the Rufus Putnam Masonic Lodge in Columbus Grove.  

He and his wife were in the mission field in India for 39 years

Rev. Charles E.  Warren, 96, of Bluffton, died May 6, 2018, at his daughter's residence in Pekin, Illinois.  Charles was born Sept. 4, 1921, in Pana, Illinois to the late Zed McNarry and Jennie (Read) Warren. On Oct. 14, 1944 he married Anita Steiner Warren who preceded him in death on June 11, 2002.

Charles was a graduate of Pana High School in Pana, Illinois, Wheaton College and also earned a Master's Degree in Theology at Wheaton Graduate Department, The Orlinda Childs Pierce Memorial School of Theology.
