BHS students in Allen Lima Youth Leadership class

Four Bluffton High School students were among 35 members of the Allen Lima Youth Leadership class that graduated in late April.

Bluffton students are Sydney Hoff, Kayla Kindle, Rameen Omar and Aimee Ritter.

This year’s students have worked as a group since October. Students selected three service projects to address concerns in their communities.

The monthly newsletter "Edelweiss News" from the Gardeners of the Bluffton Pandora Area is now on the Icon.

The club's next meeting is at 6;30 p.m., Tuesday, June 7, in the Bluffton Public Library. Butterflies and bees is the topic of discussion, which is open to the public.

Matt Lora of Bluffton and Shawnee High School math teacher, was named Shawnee Optimist Club’s Educator of the Year.

Lora of 167 Hillcrest Dr., Bluffton, says that his ability to be a good educator comes from the environment he works in.

"It's been an awesome time at Shawnee High School; I've been surrounded by really good people in the math department, we're all very close and we're not afraid to share our materials with each other - it's just been a great time," Lora said.

Garrett Kisseberth, a Cory-Rawson senior, is one of 11 high school studenets awarded a college scholarship from the District 8 Fellowship of Christian Athletes,
 WTLW TV-44, and Store & Haul, Inc.

Kissabether will receive a $500 scholarship for his future educational plans.

Two years shy of a half century, Dwain Leiber sells his garage

Two years shy of one half century that included surviving several Riley Creek floods, Dwain Leiber, who turns 78 in June, decided it was time.

The 1957 Bluffton High School graduate and owner of Leiber Garage since 1969 used a racing term to describe his decision to sell his business.

“The wheels started turning,” he said.

“They started turning when Tom Dotson approached me to buy the garage,” Dwain laughed.

Madison Soper, Sydney Staton, Icon student artists of the month

Two Bluffton High School seniors who are putting together the class of 2017 graduation slide show, are the Icon's artists of the month.

The students are Sydney Staton and Madison Soper.

She has taken Photography I and Photography II as her art classes at BHS.

"Next year, I plan to go to Bluffton University and major in Mathematics and minor in Computer Science. I also plan to play soccer for Bluffton, in the fall," she said about next year's school plans.
