From high school and junior high musicians

Last week Bluffton schools heldits own solo and ensemble contest. OMEA hosted a virtual one for the state. Bluffton meanwhile, held its own contest. Results follow:

Over 40 students and residents cleaned railroad bed picking up everything including the kitchen sink

FROM ADA ICON - Residents of McGuffey and students at Upper Scioto Valley High School High School kick started the clean-up of their village Friday by working from 9 to 4 cleaning up trash along the railroad bed that runs through McGuffey.

Thanks to football coach Dustin Price and other school faculty over 40 students showed up to help according to village council member Richard Spradlin.

Spradlin shared how they worked hard all day and filled the biggest dumpster that was available.

Steven Neely, Bluffton High School junior, is the Icon's artist of the month for April.

He has taken Ceramics 1 and Ceramics 2. Following high school he says that he is considering engineering as a college major. The three animals in the photo with him are some that he says that he's always found interesting.

 "I enjoy art because I find that it is a good way to express creativity," says Steven. Vickie Garmon is the Bluffton High School art teacher.

Baylor didn't win March Madness – Bluffton first graders won

7,467 books.

It’s obvious that Bluffton first graders love to read.

The students held a three-week March Madness reading incentive competition last month.

During the competition, students in Mrs. Combs’ class earned first place overall, reading 1,848 books.

At the conclusion of the reading madness a total of 7,467 books were read, and the teachers told the Icon that they are impressed and proud of all the hard-working first grade readers.

This 2019 BHS grad is an Ohio University student studying media arts productions

Icon: You graduated from Bluffton in 2019. What have you been doing since then?
Since graduating in 2019, I attend Ohio University where I am pursuing a BS in Media Arts Productions. I was sent home for online school last March and plan to move back into Athens on May 9 (finally).

Members the Bluffton High School classes of 2021, 2022 and 2023

Bluffton High School's 22nd annual academic letter assembly took place on March 30.

Sophomores, juniors and seniors with a 3.5 cummulative grade point average or higher receive an academic letter.

Due to covid restrictions this year, students received letters during a ceremony at school. It was recorded for parents to watch at a later time.
