480 EMS runs keeps Bluffton squad busy in 2015

Bluffton EMS had a busy year with 480 total runs, according to Jan Basinger, EMS director.
 
The squad had 459 calls with 353 of those of a medical nature. The majority of calls, 360, were within the village of Bluffton.
 
The squad had 339 transports with Bluffton Hospital as the destination on 164 calls, Lima Memorial with 81, St. Rita’s Medical Center 81 and Blanchard Valley Hospital 52. There were four life flights from the Bluffton airport.
 
July was the busiest month with 48 runs. August was the lightest month with 29 runs.

Counterfeit bills passed in Bluffton businesses

Rick Skilliter, Bluffton police chief, informed The Icon of persons passing counterfeit bills in Bluffton businesses.

• Over the weekend several counterfeit $50 bills were cashed in at businesses along State Route 103. The men using these counterfeit bills were making small purchases requiring large amounts of change.

• On Tuesday evening someone purchased a pet dog via Craig's List.The payment and exchange for the pet were conducted in a parking lot of a SR 103 business.

Bluffton police seek assistance identifying "suspicious male"

Bluffton police seek public assistance in identifying an individual who has been seen over the course of several days on various parts of the Bluffton University campus, according to Rick Skilliter, police chief.

According to a report from the police: Officials say the male has been observed in restricted areas.

On Thursday, Oct. 22, Bluffton police officers attempted to stop the man in an attempt to identify him, but he fled on foot, and drove off in a dark-colored four-door vehicle, leaving the area before police could stop him.

Serious two-vehicle accident closes Grove Road at SR 696

Bluffton police, fire and EMS were called to the scene of a two-vehicle accident at approximately 8:30 p.m. on Friday at the intersection of Columbus Grove Road and State Route 696.

Several injuries resulted and a Life Flight helicopter from the Bluffton Airport landed on 696 anticipating flying an injured person to an area hospital.

It appeared that the one vehicle struck the other in the intersection. One vehicle was in the ditch and the other was on its side on the highway pavement.
