I think we are all hoping for some warmer weather and looking forward to spring! Delays and cancellations have wreaked havoc on many families' schedules, so the hope is that better weather is right around the corner.

As of Jan. 31 the village began to experience water service lines freezing under the roadway, according to Jamie Mehaffie, Bluffton Village administrator.

"It appears as though the slight warm up in the air temperature has caused the frost line to dive deeper nearly overnight. While it doesn't seem logical that a warm up would have that effect (just the opposite seems correct) it is a reality. The Service Department has been attempting to thaw the lines and not having a whole lot of success," Mehaffie said.

Shortly after Dennis Gallant, Bluffton mayor, announced 2014 council committee assignments, one of those committees set its calendar in motion.

Council’s sidewalk review board, not even an official council board, decided to organize for the year. The board includes council members Mitch Kingsley and Joe Sehlhorst along with Jason Granger, a citizen appointment.

Bluffton school board reorganized for 2014 on Jan. 8.

The following positions were approved:
• Board president, Renee Smith
• Board vice president, Brad Fruchey

• Officlal delegate to 2014 Ohio School Board Conference, Brad Fruchey
• Alternate delegate, Renee Smith

• Legislative liaison to the Ohio School Board Association, Wes Klinger
• Board’s representative on the Athletic Council, Jeremy Scoles

It was the changing of the guards at Monday’s Bluffton council meeting. After a two-day weather delay, council met for the first time in 2014.

Gone are experienced council members Richard McGarrity and Dave Steiner, whose terms expired. Replacing them are newcomers Roger Warren and Judy Augsburger. Warren is the first council member to be elected as a write-in. Augsburger is only the third woman to ever hold a council seat.
