Batch of arctic air is displaced and hovers over the Great Lakes

A wind chill warning remains in effect from today (Jan. 29) until 2 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 31. Dangerously cold wind chills are expected for all of northwest Ohio. Wind chills as low as 45 below zero expected.

The dangerously cold wind chills could cause frostbite on exposed skin in less than 10 minutes.

The Village of Bluffton provides the Icon with the following information from the American Red Cross concerning potential frozen pipes.

Water has a unique property in that it expands as it freezes. This expansion puts tremendous pressure on whatever is containing it, including metal or plastic pipes. No matter the strength of a container, expanding water can cause pipes to break.

Republic Services will be closed Wednesday, Jan. 30, due to the extreme cold. The commercial and residential, trash and recycling pick-up scheduled for Wednesday Jan. 30 will be postponed until Thursday, Jan. 31.

It's January, but the Festival of Wheel committee is already thinking about June.

The initial Festival of Wheels committee meeting for 2019 is at 7 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 30, in the third floor of the town hall, according to Dan Diller, chair of the event.

 

 

Several seats will be on the ballot

This is an election year for voters in the Bluffton school district.

On the Nov. 5 ballot will be candidates for Bluffton mayor, two Bluffton council seats, two Bluffton school board seats, one Richland Township trustee seat and one Monroe Township trustee seat. Beaverdam voters will select a mayor and two council  members.

In addition, the Bluffton school board will place two renewal levies. Those levies will be on the May 7 primary ballot.
