Interstate 75 reconstruction and widening through Findlay

The following impacts to traffic related to the reconstruction and widening of Interstate 75 through Findlay and Hancock County are scheduled to occur:

Oct. 15 - Lima Avenue under U.S. 68/state Route 15 will close for approximately one year

Early November -Entrance ramp from U.S. 68/state Route 15 to Interstate 75 southbound to close for one year

Trick-or-treat night Oct. 25; fall leaf pick up starts Oct. 29

Bluffton council set several committee meetings for October. The schedule follows. All meetings are in the town hall.

• Monday, Oct. 15, Utilities committee, manhole bid reviews, 1 p.m.
• Monday, Oct. 15, Parks and recreation, 2019 Johnny Appleseed grant program, 7:30 p.m.
• Monday, Oct. 15, Ordinance committee, 8:30 p.m.
• Thursday, Oct. 18, Finance committee, 2019 police department budget, noon
• Monday, Oct. 22 – Council as a whole, village website discussion, 6:30 p.m.

A possible lane obstsruction exists on West Elm Street today (Thursday, Oct. 11). The gas company is working on the street between Spring and Bentley Road.

Paolo DeMaria, superintendent of public instruction, Ohio Department of Education comes to Bluffton

It's not every day that the Superintendent of Public Instruction from the Ohio Department of Education drops in for a visit.

After all, there are 3,600 public schools in the state and 1.6 million students in his care.

It happened yesterday (Oct. 9) as Paolo DeMaria visited Bluffton schools. Jamie Nygaard followed Supertendent DeMaria's visit. Accompanying the state superintendent was State Rep. Robert Cupp (4th district).

Village will remove decorations that do not meet standards of Maple Grove Cemetery’s rules and regulations book

"Due to time constraints maintaining Maple Grove Cemetery the village will enforce the rules and regulations of the trustees of Maple Grove Cemetery and the Bluffton council," Bernadine Ludwig, cemetery sexton, told The Icon on Monday.

"All shepherd hooks must be removed. There will be no exceptions for these hooks to remain on stones, gravesites or foundations," she said.

The Bluffton HS boys' soccer team will collect food and supplies for the Bluffton Food Pantry at Steinmetz soccer field on Thursday, Oct. 11.

The collection takes place during the JV and varsity games against Allen East.

The JV game starts at 4:50 p.m. and the varsity game is at 7 pm. The Bluffton Food Pantry, located in the basement of St. John’s United Church of Christ, regularly serves over 50 families in the Bluffton area.
