This year Bluffton is winner of outstanding achievement award for flowers

For the second year Bluffton is among recipients of honors in the 2018 America in Bloom National Awards program.

Awards were announced Sept. 29 in Lexington, Kentucky.

Bluffton is winner of the outstanding achievement award for flowers. Judges scored Bluffton a 6-star rating out of a possible 10 stars and received special recognition for its flowers.

Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) District 1 is looking for snowplow drivers and will hold three hiring events to find them.

The schedule of events is as follows:
• Wednesday, Oct. 3, from noon to 6 p.m. at the ODOT District 1 office, 1885 N. McCullough St., Lima.

• Wednesday, Oct. 10, noon to 6 p.m. at the ODOT Defiance County maintenance garage, 2340 Baltimore Rd., Defiance.

• Tuesday, Oct. 16, 3 to 7 p.m. at the ODOT Hancock County maintenance garage, 1645 Lima Ave., Findlay.

Bluffton Area Chamber of Commerce invites sponsors to this year's Blaze of Lights.

"The Blaze is one of the most beloved of Bluffton traditions. Our managers, sponsors, and volunteers go all out to make the parade, entertainment, and decorations a spectacular reason to be in Bluffton," said Paula Scott, chamber CEO.

The pledge target date is Friday, Oct. 19.

Bluffton's next council meeting is at 7 p.m., Monday, Oct. 8, in the third floor of the town hall. Here are committee meeting scheduled in early October.

Ordinance Committee – Oct. 3,  at 8 p.m.
Pathway Board – Oct. 4,  at noon
Utility Committee – Oct. 4, at 4 p.m.
Street Committee – Oct. 10, 2018 at 8 p.m.
 

5.5 degrees warmer than most Septembers

Thirty days hath September. And, this year those 30 days were warmer than most Septembers past.

According to Guy Verhoff, Pandora weather observer, the average temperature for September 2018 was 69.6 degrees. The normal average is 64.1 degrees.
