With a continued decrease in influenza through our community and a decrease in positive influenza admissions, Mercy Health – St. Rita’s Medical Center has lifted the restrictions prohibiting those under the age of 14 from visiting the hospital.  

The hospital will continue to discourage anyone who  is exhibiting signs of illness from visiting their loved ones so as to prevent any future spread of the flu.  

The hospital encourages everyone to cover their cough and wash their hands.

Judy Greavu, former Bluffton College art faculty member and ONU art professor emerita, has had a sculpture accepted for display in Lakeland, Fla. The sculpture was one of 10 selected from 65 proposals for display along Lemon Street from now until the end of 2018.

Lakeland lives up to its name with two lakes in the heart of town with many pieces of sculpture near the water’s edge. Sculpture also can be found at a nearby park in the center of town as well as along downtown streets.

There’s a new restaurant in Bluffton. It opens night is Saturday. And, for opening night, you’ll need a reservation.

Bystillwaters Bistro, formerly Jeanne’s Kitchen, reopens with Heather Cox as the new owner. Here’s what you may expect on opening night:

In honor of St. Patrick’s Day, an Irish menu is the specialty of the evening.

Two servings times are planned on opening night:

• 4:30 to 6 p.m. and,
• 6:30 to 9 p.m.

Interstate bridge over abandoned RR slated for 2021 removal

Four Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) projects will impact traffic patterns in Bluffton over the next four years.

Jack Huber, village administrator, shared the projects with Bluffton council members on Monday.

The most significant is slated for 2021. It is the projected complete removal of the twin overpasses on Interstate 75 at Exit 142. The bridges are 0.3 miles north of Exit 142 at State Route 103.

The project involves removal of the bridges and reconstruction of the pavement over the abandoned railroad.

Owner is Belmont Propertis, Cadiz, Ohio

Riley View Apartments, 115 E. College Ave., is under new ownership as of the first of the year.

Belmont Properties, Cadiz, Ohio, a for-profit organization, has taken over the ownership of the apartments from the Bluffton Housing Corp., which operated them as a non-profit since its inception in 1974.

Bluffton Boy Scouts from troop 256 will be Scouting for Food in Bluffton on  Saturday, March 10. Residents may place non-perishable food items in bags on their front porches.  All food is donated to the Bluffton Food Pantry, which supports families in need within the Bluffton school district.
