One of the Village of Bluffton’s little-known committees – Village Cultural Affairs – is returning to life after a long sleep.
Known best as the caretaker of the Blaze of Lights Ream Holiday Folk Art cutouts, the committee originated in the 1970s as a village committee to inspire arts in Bluffton.
At the beginning of 2018 council member Joe Sehlhorst asked to be council’s representative to the group. On Jan. 30 Sehlhorst and Mayor Richard Johnson met with a group of volunteers who indicated an interest in assisting the committee.
February-March calendar listing at bottom of story -
February and March are full of activities at Bluffton elementary. Here's an overview of calendar items:
TESTING DAYS: Students in grades 3-5 will take Ohio English Language Arts tests on April 12 and 13. They will take Ohio Math tests on April 26 and 27. Fifth grade students will take Ohio Science tests on May 1 and 2. Second grade students will take Iowa achievement tests March 26-April 6.
A PAX at Home presentation is set for 3:15 to 4:15 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 20, in the Bluffton elementary fourth-fifth grade lab room.
The program is a hoome version of the Good Behavior Game children play in Kindergarten and first grade classrooms.
According to Tim Closson, elementary principal, "What better way to help with problem behaviors at home and do the same thing your children already do at school."
The presentation will include distribution of free material involving the program.
There’s one less restroom in Bluffton, but no one is complaining.
The building – if you’d call it a restroom – at the Spring Street side of the Buckeye Park was removed earlier this month by village employees.
Its condition was the butt of jokes during a recent Bluffton council meeting, when one village employee stated, “We ought to pay people to use it,” noting its condition.
While it’s not cheap to go to the bathroom, Bluffton council’s park and recreation board, meeting on Jan. 29, flushed out ideas for a replacement.
