“The Bluffton We Never Knew,” includes photographs from our first half century, 1861 to 1911. The book, with 106 pages, includes nearly 170 black and white photographs of Bluffton.
The Icon invites viewers to enter its Super Bowl football contest. It’s easy to enter:
• Pick the game winner and winning point spread.
• Entry deadline noon, Sunday, Feb. 4
• One overall winner receives 2 tickets to the Shannon Theatre, Bluffton, and your choice: Bluffton Icon or Ada Icon cap.

The most labor-intensive time spent by Bluffton village employees during 2017 involved street work, according to an hours worked by department summary provided to Bluffton council on Monday.
The chart (attached at the bottom of this story) reveals actually hours spent in hours and percentage of total workload.
Major areas:
1 – Streets – 1,997 hours (32%)
2 – Water – 1,698 hours (27%)
3 – Sewer – 1,016 hours (16%)
4 – Parks – 524 hours (8%)
Several Bluffton-connected events this winter should interest area gardeners and naturalists. Victoria Zeits of the Bluffton-Pandora Area Gardeners provided The Icon with the following schedule.
• Thursday, Jan. 25, 10 a.m. – Bluffton Senior Citizens Center. Beth Theisen, Johnny Appleseed Metropolitan Park, presents program on the healing power of nature. Free with donations accepted.
Registration for spring 2018 is now available on line. Registrations are due Wednesday, Jan. 31, according to Ron Koontz.
