Fifty years ago Dick Boehr, Gene Benroth and some other downtown merchants had a crazy idea: Let's have an old car. It might bring people to Bluffton.
Fifty years later it continues to take place and continues to bring people to Bluffton.
And, not surprisingly, 50 years later, the cars that are classic today were new in 1967. Who would have thought!
You can except nearly 200 vehicles that grew up on leaded gas to return to Bluffton on Friday, for the 50th Bluffton Festival of Wheels cruise-in, sponsored by the Bluffton Lions.
A project to replace the bridge deck on the Bentley Road bridge over I-75, Bluffton, will require two overnight closures of I-75 this week.
I-75 northbound under the Bentley Road overpass will close overnight Thursday, June 15, from 10 p.m. until 6 a.m. for the removal of the bridge deck and parapet walls over northbound travel lanes.
The Bluffton Senior Center announced its trips for the summer and fall, according to Tonya Meyer, director.
Trips follow:
• July 16-22, Bob and Bev Painter will accompany the group to Branson, Mo., and the Ozarks with 7 fantastic shows including the Sight and Sounds Theater. Cost is $864 for members and $882 for non-members.
