Awarded “A” in Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade

Blanchard Valley Hospital was recently honored with an “A” grade in the Fall 2016 Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade, which rates how well hospitals protect patients from errors, accidents, injuries and infections. 

The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade uses 30 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to produce a single “A,” “B,” “C,” “D” or “F” score representing a hospital’s overall capacity to keep patients safe from preventable harm. More than 2,600 U.S. hospitals were graded in Fall 2016, with 844 hospitals receiving an “A.”

For Allen County voters, early voting may take place in the Allen County Board of Elections office, lower level of Third Court of Appeals building, 204 N. Main St., Lima.
• Saturday, Nov. 5, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
• Sunday, Nov. 6, from 1 to 5  p.m.
• Monday, Nov. 7, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m

Bluffton downtown merchants invite early holiday shoppers to downtown on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 4-5 for Bluffton’s downtown Christmas open house.

Ten Main Street businesses participate in the open house, coordinated by Bluffton Center for Entrepreneurs in cooperation with the downtown merchants.

Earlier this week, 3650 green holiday open house flyers were mailed to all postal patrons in Bluffton and Pandora.

Bluffton Hospital invites community members to experience a demonstration of the da Vinci Surgical Robot and learn about the new Women’s Center of Bluffton Hospital on Thursday, Nov. 3, from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Bluffton Middle School Cafetorium.
 
The event will begin with an introduction and overview of the Women’s Center of Bluffton Hospital presented by Chief Administrative Officer Chris Keller.

Yes, October 2016 was warmer than expected.

According to Guy Verhoff, Pandora weather observer, reports that the October average daily temperature was 58.5 degrees.

Compare that to 52.5 degrees as the normal average October daily temperature.

October’s precipitation at 2.23 inches was very close to October’s normal average precipitation of 2.68 inches.

October’s high temperature was 84 degrees on Oct. 6. The low was 33 degrees on Oct. 25.

Program in school and visits to area retirement communities

Bluffton American Legion Post 382 will observe Veterans Day in several ways next week, according to Dennis Morrison of the post.

The following programs are planned for Friday, Nov. 11.

Larry Core, Thom and Cheryl Craig will show fourth graders at Bluffton elementary how to properly fold the American flag during an 8 a.m. program.

Cheryl will tell what each fold of the flag represents. Then each student will be given a flag and taught how to fold it.
