BCE branding workshop follows chamber meeting

Dan Klear of Superior Energy Solutions is Friday’s Bluffton Area Chamber of Commerce breakfast speaker, according to Phil Zimmerly, chamber director.

Following the chamber meeting Marathana Prothro, Bluffton University assistant professor of communication, will provide a Bluffton Center for Entrepreneurs workshop on business branding.

He takes his coffee as seriously as he takes promoting Bluffton

Phil Zimmerly.

He’s the result of mixing coffee with an arts and crafts show, town fireworks, a Thanksgiving celebration, several downtown promotions and all of the activities of the Bluffton Area Chamber of Commerce.

Phil, owner of Common Grounds coffee shop, is the new part-time director of the Bluffton chamber. With the job comes the best office view in the village – the very front room in the second floor of the town hall.

Of course, lots of other things come with the job for Zimmerly, who became chamber director earlier this month.

The Icon spotted DOWDY22 in the Hirschy Hall parking lot on the Bluffton University campus. It's on a black Chrysler 300 from Van Wert County.

The car is owed by Daryl Dowdy (a bluffton alum) who played basketball for Bluffton College back in the late 80’s.  His number was 22. He met his wife, Sandy, while attending the university and his youngest child (Justis Dowdy) is currently a sophomore (and is also playing basketball).

The following impacts to traffic related to the reconstruction and widening of Interstate 75 through Findlay and Hancock County are scheduled to occur in the coming weeks:

Interstate 75 both northbound and southbound from the area of the Blanchard River (mile marker 159) near Findlay High School to county Road 99 (mile marker 161) is restricted to one lane at times through the work zone during nighttime hours only.

The project could take place in 2018

A separate pathway for walkers, joggers and bike riders along Bentley Road took a step forward on Thursday.

Meeting with the Bluffton council street and alley committee, Bluffton Pathway Board members provided a “here’s where we are today” update.

Dick Ramseyer, pathway chair, explained how a side path would handle biking and foot traffic along Bentley from Augsburger to the bridge near Grove Street.

The side path would separate motorized vehicles from pedestrians along the heavily trafficked road.
