Bluffton postal carriers invite residents to help stamp out hunger on Saturday, May 14.
According to Everett Collier, Bluffton postmaster, Postal carrier on their Saturday routes will pick up non-perishable food items. Residents may leave those items at their mailbox for pick up.
The local effort will support the Bluffton Community Assistance Program's food pantry.
Letter carriers around the United States, in partnership with the U.S. Postal Service, will collect food for families in need on Saturday.
Shortly before 10 p.m. on Thursday evening Bluffton fire and EMS were called to Richland Manor nursing home of Swaney Road.
When the Icon arrived on the scene Beaverdam-Richland fire and EMS, Bluffton, Lafayette-Jackson and Cairo departments were already at the Manor. Beaverdam-Richland was in charge of the situation and the other departments were called in for assistance.
Brass and woodwind musicians of all ages are invited to join the Bluffton Merchant Band. This community ensemble will perform music from different eras in history, celebrating Bluffton's 150th Sesquicentennail. Limited numbers of instruments are available to borrow.

The Bluffton Sesqui String Band was formed to help celebrate Bluffton's 150 years in the 2011 Sesquicentennial Festival this summer.
According to Wendy Chappell-Dick, this old-time music string band is learning fiddle tunes appropriate for Bluffton's Historic Costume Ball, planned for June 25. A historic string band can include guitars, mandolins, fiddles, banjos, penny whistles, flutes, recorders, bass, and possible a viola. All instruments should be played at an intermediate level.
Pandora council is discussing whether to retain ownership of its municipal fire station building, or transfer it to the Riley Township Trustees.
Several options concerning the building were discussed at the April 26 meeting. Rick Fricke, president of council, will submit these options in writing so that all council members can provide input.
In related business concerning the building, Stan Schneck told council that he received an estimate of $10,543.40 from Pandora Contracting for a wood frame structure to be used for cold storage.
Bluffton Hospital Auxiliary's Hearts and Hands Campaign is underway, offering Icon viewers several ways to participate.
Marty Lemley, Auxiliary president, said, "Last year through generous support of the campaign and through Auxiliary fundraisers we were able to give $15,000 for the Surgery/Emergency Room expansion at Bluffton Hospital."
The Auxiliary has pledged $75,000 over a five-year period. The Auxiliary invites viewers to give a monetary donation toward the project.
