Visiting Bluffton used a big second quarter to tally a season-high point total and blow out McComb 83-48 in a non-conference boys basketball contest Saturday night, December 11.
Bluffton led 21-12 after the first period of play. But then the Pirates outscored the Panthers 22-5 in the second stanza to build an insurmountable 43-17 advantage.
Bluffton out-pointed McComb 40-31 after intermission.
Bluffton improved to 3-1 with the win, while McComb dropped to 0-3 with the defeat.
Visiting Bluffton outscored Delphos Jefferson 18-9 in the fourth quarter to rally and post a 45-39 win in the Northwest Conference boys basketball opener Friday night, December 10.
After a low-scoring start, the game was tied 16-16 at halftime. DJ edged ahead 30-27 after three periods before Bluffton pulled off its final stanza comeback.
Kyler Kinn tallied 12 of his game-high 21 points in the fourth period to pace the Pirate rally.
The Bluffton girls basketball team went cold in the second half and lost 42-29 to visiting Delphos Jefferson in Northwest Conference play Thursday night, December 9.
Bluffton trailed 14-11 after the opening period, but rallied to lead 20-19 at intermission. DJ outscored the Pirate girls 23-9 in the second half to win going away.
The Lady Pirates dropped to 4-2 overall and 0-1 in the NWC with the defeat. Unbeaten Jefferson improved to 6-0 and 2-0 in the NWC after the victory.
Bluffton senior Dana Shoulders II (Mansfield/Lexington) capped off his five years at Bluffton by being named All-Region by D3football.com following the 2021 fall campaign. He was a third team selection at defensive tackle. Shoulders is the first All-Region honoree since 2018 but his selection marks the eighth time a Bluffton defensive lineman has been named D3football.com since 2010! Isaac Zickefoose was a three-time honoree, while Ryan Aelker and Justin Crosier both took home all-region twice.
The Bluffton University men's basketball team battled HCAC heavyweight Hanover on Saturday, Dec. 4, dropping a 75-64 decision to the Panthers. Bluffton slipped to 2-4 overall and 0-1 in the Heartland Conference, while Hanover stays perfect at 5-0 and 2-0 in the HCAC.
