Lauren Swartzwalder smacked a run-scoring double in the first inning to pace the Pirates to an early 1-0 lead

BLUFFTON - The Bluffton softball team led early but fell to McComb Monday evening in its season lidlifter, 12-1.

McComb plated seven runs in the sixth inning to break open a 5-1 battle and post a run-rule victory in six frames.

Lauren Swartzwalder smacked a run-scoring double in the first inning to pace the Pirates to an early 1-0 lead. But McComb answered with four runs in the second frame to take control.

McComb pitching and defense then held Bluffton scoreless over the final five frames. The visitors out-hit Bluffton, 12-5.

BLUFFTON - The host Buffton baseball team lost 18-3 to hard-hitting McComb Monday evening.

The Pirates fell to 0-3 with the defeat, while McComb improved to 1-1 with the five-inning, run-rule shortened victory.

The Panthers broke away from a 1-1 game with consecutive six-run frames in the second and third innings. McComb added five more runs in the top of the fourth to build an 18-2 cushion.

Bluffton plated single runs in the first, second and fourth innings.

BLUFFTON - The host Buffton baseball team dropped a doubleheader to Pandora-Gilboa in a season-opening twinbill Saturday afternoon.

The Pirates fell to 0-2 with the defeats, while P-G starts out 2-0. 

Rocket hurler Eric Gerschutz pitched a three-hitter in the opener as P-G broke the game open with a five-run second inning.

In the nightcap, Drew Miller struck out 11 Pirates in five innings as three Rocket pitchers combined to pitch a one-hitter.

Swim with Putnam County YMCA team and Lima YMCA team

Eleven swimmers from Bluffton schools swam at the Great Lakes YMCA Zones Swimming Championship at Bowling Green State University March 19-21.

The 2021 event had 800 swimmers from teams in Indiana, Kentucky, Ohio, Michigan and West Virginia.

Jenna Downey, Camden Verb and Riley Verb swim for the Putnam County YMCA swim team under assistant coach, Bob Verb of Bluffton.

In the summer, they all swim for the Bluffton Sardines.
