VAN BUREN - The Bluffton varsity wrestling team put together a strong showing in the Div. III sectionals Friday and Saturday at Van Buren.
Three Pirate grapplers won titles, and five Bluffton matmen qualified for the district tournament next weekend at Rossford.
Pirate senior Tayton Kleman and sophomore Thayne Kleman each won individual bracket titles on the first day, while Kaden Basil copped his own crown on day two to pace Bluffton.

BLUFFTON - Host Bluffton used a big second quarter to hang on and defeat Defiance Tinora in a low-scoring Div. III sectional semifinal boys basketball game 41-38 Wednesday night.
The 11th-seeded Pirates trailed 10-7 after the opening stanza as Marcus Grube fired in eight points for the visiting Rams.
But Bluffton responded with a 13-4 second stanza to grab a 20-14 lead at intermission. Kyler Kinn canned two triples in the period for Bluffton, while Nic Essinger added one trey.
Here are the results of the first-ever Bluffton school swim team competing in the district swim tournament at Bowlilng Green State University last weekend. None of the swimmer advanced to the state meet.

BLUFFTON - Homestanding Bluffton rallied behind a big fourth quarter to defeat Delphos Jefferson 58-48 in the Northwest Conference and regular season finale for boys basketball Friday night.
The Pirates trailed 40-36 heading to the fourth period after leading by six at intermission. But Bluffton outscored DJ 22-8 in the final stanza to win by 10.
Pirates Nic Essinger and Trey Boblitt each scored seven points in the fourth period to spearhead the comeback.

DELPHOS -Two Bluffton girls received All-Northwest Conference basketball notice from league coaches in voting conducted at their annual selection meeting this week.
Senior guard Laykin Garmatter and junior post Kylie Stackhouse were each voted honorable mention all-league.
The Lady Pirates finished their regular season 12-10 overall and 4-4 in the NWC, good for sixth in the nine-team league.
Spencerville senior Emma Leis was selected the 2020-21 NWC Player of the Year in voting by the league coaches.

VAN BUREN - Visiting Bluffton built a double-digit lead and staved off a late Van Buren rally to win a non-conference boys basketball makeup contest 49-44 Wednesday night.
