Bluffton senior Laykin Garmatter led all scorers with 15 points in her final game

RAWSON - Bluffton lost a seesaw nailbiter at Cory-Rawson 36-35 in a Div. IV girls basketball sectional semifinal Wednesday night to end their season in heartbreaking fashion.

Hornet Libby McVetta sank a game-winning three-pointer from out top to foil the Lady Pirate comeback effort.

C-R ran out to an early five-point lead after a Zoe Chisholm corner triple. The hosts led the Pirate girls 7-2 after a very low-scoring first period of play. 

Bluffton stormed back with a 16-point second stanza to grab an 18-15 intermssion lead.

There's a new athletic team in town • Bluffton HS swim team

You've read about the Bluffton High School swim team on the Icon this winter, but you've not met the members. 

This is the first official Bluffton swim team. Coaches are Rachel Diller and Bob Verb, who also coach the Bluffton Sardines summer team.

Nine members of the high school team advanced from the sectional tournament and will compete at the district event at Bowling Green State University on Feb. 19.

In their first season as a high school swimming team, nine swimmers from Bluffton High School qualified to move on to the district competition. The high school swim team participated in the Ohio High School Athletic Association Northwest District sectional meet held at the Lima YMCA.

Swimmers who finish in the top 32 spots for each event at each sectional advance on to the district competition.

Trey Boblitt led BHS with 26 points on the strength of 6 treys. Soper contributed 16 points, Trenton Donley netted 10

Bluffton boys tame Wildcats

BLUFFTON - Shooting well from three-point territory, homestanding Bluffton posted a methodical 64-56 victory over winless Kenton in a non-conference boys basketball matchup Saturday night. 

The Pirates led 23-21 after a high-scoring the first period. Trey Boblitt enjoyed a monster quarter as he canned four three-point goals and tallied 14 points.
 
Bluffton led 35-31 at intermission and Boblitt added six more markers in the second stanza.

Pirates enter tournament with 12-10 overall record

BLUFFTON - Host Bluffton dominated former conference rival Lima Central Catholic 49-30 in a girls basketball bout Thursday night to end the regular season on a high note.

The Lady Pirates led 11-5 after the first period of play on the strength of two Kylie Monday triples. 

Six Kylie Stackhouse points in the second stanza helped the Pirates secure a 24-14 intermission margin.

The Pirate girls led 32-21 heading to the final period of play.
