All 3 singles competitors won matches in the 35-player draw

LIMA - The Bluffton boys tennis team's spring season came to a close after the first day of Div. II sectional play Thursday at UNOH.

No Pirates advanced to the semifinals in day two, although all three Pirate singles competitors won matches in the 35-player draw.

Bluffton's Luke Shadle won his first round singles match over Keaton Fishbaugh of Celina 6-0, 6-4. Shadle then defeated Dylan Byers of Elida 6-0, 6-1 in the round of 32.

LIMA - The visiting Bluffton softball team lost a 1-0 pitcher's duel to Lima Central Catholic in the Div. IV sectional softball finals Thursday evening.

The Lady Pirates fell to 8-14 with the difficult defeat. LCC advances to the district semifinals with the win.

Pirate hurler Grace Myers gave up just four hits and one run in six innings. She also singled twice to lead the Bluffton offense.

Riley Busch, Rebekah Hoff and Sophie Bricker added one hit apiece for Bluffton.

BHS travels to Cory-Rawson on Friday

FT. JENNINGS - Visiting Bluffton lost a non-league makeup baseball game to Fort Jennings 5-3 Thursday evening.

The Pirates drop to 0-24 with the defeat, while FJ improved to 4-18 with the victory.

Gavin Schimmoeller earned the pitching win with six innings of five-hit hurling. He gave up two earned runs, while striking out four and walking none.

Musketeer Aidan Grothouse earned the save in relief. Eli Brown singled twice and drove in a run. Jon Grote doubled and scored two runs.

MILLER CITY - Visiting Bluffton crushed Miller City 16-2 in a non-league softball contest Wednesday evening.

The Lady Pirates improved to 8-13 with the five-inning, run rule-shortened victory. 

The Pirate girls broke on top with four runs in the top of the first inning. They added three scores in the second for a 7-0 lead.

Riley Busch cranked a two-run homer, her fourth longball of the season, in the top of the second frame.

MC tallied both of its runs in the home fourth on a two-run homer by Knueven.

Three days of youth soccer scheduled

Bluffton becomes the soccer capital of northwestern Ohio this weekend.

Hundreds of soccer fans flock to Bluffton village park and Citizens National soccer fields this weekend as the Bluffton Soccer Association Cup tournament takes place Friday, Saturday and Sunday, May 14-15-16.

Friday’s games are from 4 to 9 p.m., Saturday’s from 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and Sunday’s from 11 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., according to Dan Lee, tournament director.

LEIPSIC - Visiting Bluffton blanked higher seed Leipsic 12-0 in a Div. IV softball sectional first round contest Tuesday evening.

The Lady Pirates improved to 7-13 with the five-inning, run rule-shortened victory. Sixth-seeded Leipsic dropped to 10-9 with the defeat.    

Ninth-seeded Bluffton advances to the sectional second round at second seed Lima Central Catholic Thursday, May 13. The Pirates upset LCC 10-5 on May 6.
