Students must carry at least a 3.0 grade point average and earn a letter during grading period-season

BLUFFTON - Several Bluffton student-athletes earned All-Northwest Conference scholar-athlete honors for fall sports in 2019.

Students must carry at least a 3.0 grade point average and earn a letter during that grading period/season to be an NWC scholar-athlete. 

Gold level is for those with a 3.5-4.0 GPA, while silver is for 3.0-3.49.

Alexa Hanna, Bluffton High School athletic director, released the 2019-20 BHS boys' and girls' varsity and JV rosters and schedules. Those are attached below.

The high school girls' basketball season starts this weekend at the McDonald's Holiday tournament at Bluffton High School. The schedule follows:

Friday
Allen East vs. Arlington, 6 p.m.
Bluffton vs. Cory-Rawson, 7:45 p.m.
Saturday
Consolation game, 6 p.m.
Title game, 7:45 p.m.

DEFIANCE - The state runner-up Bluffton boys soccer team placed two players on the 2019 Division III All-Ohio team in voting recently conducted by the Ohio Scholastic Soccer Coaches Association.

Bluffton senior defender Matt Daws and junior midfielder Jonathan Schriner were each named second team all-state. Both Pirates were also voted first team All-Northwest district.

The Pirates finished 18-3-2 and advanced to the state finals, where they lost to Columbus Wellington 4-0.

DEFIANCE - The Bluffton boys soccer team had four players receive All-Northwest district Div. III honors recently in voting conducted by area coaches.

• Senior Matt Daws and junior Jonathan Schriner were each named first team all-district.
• Pirate junior Simon Derstine was voted second team all-district.
• Sophomore Jude Spallinger was voted honorable mention all-district.

Ozer hat trick leads Wellington to 4-0 win

An announced crowd of 6,542 attended the game under an overcast sky amid 55-degree temperatures.

COLUMBUS - The Bluffton boys soccer team had its magical run to the Div. III state finals end Sunday in MAPFRE Stadium at the feet of Columbus Wellington, 4-0.

Bluffton finished its historic season 18-3-2 with the defeat at the 20,000-seat home of the Columbus Crew. It was their third consecutive contest against a team ranked in the top five in the state poll.
