Bluffton on an 11-game winning streak

BLUFFTON - Host Bluffton swept a softball doubleheader from St. Marys Saturday afternoon to keep its win streak alive.

The Lady Pirate squad extended its win string to 11 games with a 2-1, 7-5 sweep of St. Marys that improved their season record to 12-1.

Pitcher Libby Schaadt ran her record to 10-1 this spring with a complete-game three-hitter in the opener. Schaadt struck out 10 batters, walked one and allowed just one earned run.

Individual wrestling state tournament will become a Friday-Saturday-Sunday event; girls basketball, the same weekend as wrestling, will leave the Schottenstein Center

The Ohio High School Athletic Association has announced changes to the 2020 individual wrestling and girls basketball state tournaments. The wrestling state tournament will move to a Friday-Saturday-Sunday format (March 13-15) at the Schottenstein Center, while the girls basketball state tournament, which is the same weekend (March 12-14), will leave the Schottenstein Center. 

The OHSAA has not yet finalized the location for the 2020 girls basketball state tournament. That is also the same weekend as the OHSAA’s ice hockey and Division I girls and boys bowling state tournaments.

BLUFFTON - Visiting Archbold shut out Bluffton 5-0 in boys tennis action Thursday evening.

The Blue Streaks won four of the five matches without dropping a single game. Pirate Drew Wilson lost 6-4, 6-3 at first singles to post the best Bluffton showing.

The Pirates (2-4) play at LCC Friday.

Bluffton moves to 9-1; Paulding falls to 7-2

BLUFFTON - Host Bluffton outlasted Paulding 11-9 in an early-season Northwest Conference softball showdown of league leaders Thursday evening.

The first-place Lady Pirates improved to 9-1 overall and 3-0 in league play with the win, while the Panthers fell to 7-2 and 2-1 in the NWC after the defeat.    

Bluffton hurler Libby Schaadt improved her record to 8-1 on the strength of a complete-game effort by scattering 10 hits. She struck out one Panther and walked four. Only three of the Panther runs were earned.

Visiting Bluffton scored early and often to post a 9-2 softball non-league win over Arcadia Tuesday evening.

Bluffton improved to 8-1 overall with the win, while the Redskins fell to 3-5 with the defeat.    

Pirate hurler Libby Schaadt improved her record to 7-1 with a complete-game, four-hit effort. She struck out 10 Redskins and walked none.

Knocks off perennial-power Crestview 16-5

CONVOY - Visiting Bluffton knocked out 20 hits to whip perennial power Crestview 16-5 in Northwest Conference softball play Monday evening.

Bluffton improved to 7-1 overall and 2-0 in the NWC by scoring 13 runs in its final two at bats. Meanwhile, Crestview fell to 5-2 and 1-1 in the league after the defeat.

Pirate hurler Libby Schaadt improved to 6-1 with a complete-game six-hitter. She struck out 11 Lady Knights and gave up five earned runs.

Schaadt aided her own cause with a three-run home run and a single.
