Frank V. Evilsizer, 66, passed away October 8, 2021 at Lima Memorial Health System. Frank was born November 9, 1954 in Cleveland to the late Jim and Kathleen (Moran) Evilsizer. On January 3, 1981 he married Sandra Dunifon Evilsizer who survives.
Frank was a graduate of Bluffton High School. He was a truck driver for Roeder Cartage, Lima. Frank was a member of the Hog Creek Game Club and avid outdoorsman who enjoyed firearms, hunting, camping and fishing.
Donald E. Thompson, 83, passed away October 9, 2021 at Mercy Health - St. Rita's Medical Center, Lima. Donald was born December 13, 1937 in Ada to the late Eugene and Mozelle (Bullock) Thompson. On November 26, 1955 he married Wilma Dunlap Thompson.
Donald was a graduate of Ada High School. He was a truck driver for Scot-Lad and later drove for Ken Lugibihl Auto Sales. Donald was a member of True Word Tabernacle, Bluffton. He enjoyed four-wheeling and playing the banjo.
It took 103:34 but the result was worth the wait as the Bluffton University men's soccer team stunned Transylvania University with a 1-0 victory in double OT on Saturday, Oct. 9, 2021. When junior defender Maxwell Kennedy (Strongsville) delivered with just over six minutes on the clock in the second extra session, Bluffton snapped a string of 12 straight losses to a Transylvania team that was 19-1 against the Beavers all-time coming into Saturday's contest.
The Bluffton University women's team battled Transylvania for 90 minutes, but the Pioneers handed Bluffton its third straight Heartland Conference setback (2-0) on Saturday, Oct. 9, 2021. Transy improved to 7-3-1 overall and 2-1 in the Heartland, while Bluffton fell to 4-7 and 1-3 in the HCAC.
The home team went up 1-0 in minute 13 when Abby Baker found the back of the net and that was all Transylvania would need as the Pioneers finished with a commanding 24-2 advantage in total shots, including 11-2 on frame.
The Bluffton University volleyball team came out on the wrong end of a 3-0 sweep at Franklin College on Saturday, Oct. 9, 2021. The Grizzlies improved to 9-11 and 1-2 in the Heartland Conference, while Bluffton slipped to 9-13 and 1-2 in the HCAC.
Franklin won 25-22 and 25-20 before Bluffton pushed the third set to the brink, but the home team scored five of the last six points en route to a 27-25 victory in the capper.
The Bluffton University women's golf team took 24 strokes off its day one score as the Beavers moved into sixth place following a 364 on Saturday, Oct. 9, 2021.
Kiley Cline (Fostoria/Hopewell Louden) fied a season-low 84 in round two on Saturday. She is tied for 20th overall (180) with one day yet to play. Haley Gill (Indianapolis, IN/Franklin Central) and Allie Waggener (Hilliard/Hilliard Bradley) both shot 93's for the Beavers.
Seniors Marissa Hall (Avon Lake) and Keely Briggs (Franklin) rounded out Bluffton's day two with scores of 94 and 97, respectively.
